BV Formula
      #149247 - 01/17/08 11:06 AM (138.163.0.43)

What is the formula for calculating BV in game? It seems the training program is updating the skills, but not the BV for units when listed. (They are being changed individually though)

Would like to know so I can program it into my Excel Spreadsheet

I'm not 100% certain there is a formula now. I think a lot of units have been BV tweaked, enough so that any original formula (such as the basic CBT fomula) is no longer valid.

It used to be that in years past mechs would have their BV adjusted based upon their performance in the arenas. Low BV mechs that won constantly would have their BV increased to make them more evenly competetive. This of course affected LW empires too.

Though the following link to a nice little tool which could help you to properly estimate / approximate the increased (or decreased) fire power of (upgraded) custom BT weapons won't help you much with your initial question / request ("What is the formula for calculating BV in game?" [At Neveron, or more general in Classic BattleTech?] it could still be use- and or helpful for any future endeavors of yours ("Excel Spreadsheet"):

http://www.heavymetalpro.com/bv_calc.htm

Of course this would only help you to properly address one facet of BV (custom (= non-official) weapons and their fire power), but you would still require additional info from the CBT publishers (e.g. complete list with official BVs for all components, formula for calculating custom Mech design BVs). More questions? Please feel free to check the official Classic BattleTech site for more detailed info, prices (rulebook(s)), etc. at:

http://www.classicbattletech.com

Or you could ask some of the CBT gurus at sarna:

http://www.sarna.net/forums/ubbthreads.php/Cat/0

[should list all BT-related forums at sarna]

Good luck with your BV formula project (Excel Spreadsheet)!

http://mattbuck.irongalaxy.com/neveron/Blank%20Empire.xls has a bv calculator included. There is no hard and fast rule for mech BVs that I can see, but all other stuff is linear.

Since frankly I am ever helpful, here is a version which is ONLY a BV calc:

MB, thanks a bunch. All I have to do now is figure out how to tie in a drop list to another drop list. Example: Column C allows you to choose a certain vehicle from a drop list. Once that unit is selected, I need Column H to allow a drop list with the BV values for that specific type of vehicle selected in Column C. The whole idea is reduce tthe ammount of typing/data entry.

Last project is to hide the info from the data cells used to create the drop lists, and clean up the page somewhat. But I digress. MB this is great, thank you!

As long as I get to put it on my website, do whatever you want.
