upgraded mechs

during codefest the ability to create new UPGRADES for existing mechs was removed
despite any rumors that you may have heard, i have not done anything to existing upgraded mechs
i do however have plans to simply reset them to the default mech they are. this will likely get an update / announcement and a few weeks later will simply be done. so start planning for it now
the upgrade system as it exists today is clearly a horrible system that has been out of control for FAR to long
As for any compensation for currently upgraded mechs...the page had always stated it was an experimental program or some such thing...and could be removed at any time. well its been removed now.
As far as trying to determine exactly how much any one upgraded mech 'cost', let alone the entire database tables worth...there is no way to determine costs. To many variables like rep and NCash vs Upgrade Points as well as pilot swapping before during and after destroy any chance of ever actually trying to determine a value used to create existing upgrades. This is not an ideal situation obviously, but it is what it is. If it makes you feel better, pretend you just got all your upgrades killed in your most recent war, and you have already replaced them all!
there have been a few ideas about a new upgrade system kicked around. i have considered issuing some UP points as credits for those currently upgraded mechs. this is only an idea at this point, and i will make a decision about that at a later time

oh no.. you mean i cannt have a light mech that would gut a level 8 drop on my level 1? thats not right.. please let these mechs stay in the level 1/2 range so i can keep finding new zones so they can tent even further then the 400 zones they have now. I mean they do have 5 buildings in each zone.. thats just 4 tooo many.

Aye. I hate the total loss, but will not object because it has been badly abused. Kituwhaga was nearly wiped out, (by Eye of the Beholder) when it was level 5, (long time ago) due to seriously upgraded mechs.
Unlike some upgraders who tried to create ubermechs, I upraded every mech that could be upgraded. This was a long process, cause if something happened I did not like I removed it. A number of times I had to dp restore them. The majority were upgraded 3-4 times, but I got some cool stuff. Take my jumping Raven for instance. Or my Mad 4A who lost both it's PPC's and gained a clan'like laser but now cannot possibly overheat. I agree it is powerful, but nothing near a Nem or STR.
I would estimate that between my two primary emps I have made upgrades to 3-4 hundred mechs. The most common upgrades were armor factors, sensor enhancements, sometimes extra heat sinks and/or efficiency, and relatively minor weapon upgrades. Almost always it was a trade-off, mostly for armor.
When I heard SM turned it off I halted upgrade kit production. You see as soon as I hit level 8 I have been producing them non stop in both kingdoms. So not only do I loose the upgrades but also all the thousands of upgrade kits which I guess are lost in cyberspace. If they ever come back there should be a firm limit of how many upgrades any one mech can have. That would prevent the ubermechs everybody complains about.

Yes, that is very minor. There is a limit, it is 100.
Trust me when I say there are mechs out there that are severely overpowered.

It does not tell me anymore how many times this was upgraded, but I think it was around 50-60. This was a MAD-4A. It is pretty tame compared to what is out there.
I am very glad that you cannot upgrade mechs anymore, but alas the current ones needed to be removed with that "feature". It just does not make common sense to do the job halfway. At least there are no more new upgrades.

How about making upgraded mechs cost 1 sp more per upgrade up to 30 upgrades, then 2 sp more up to 60 and so on?

Yeah that is pretty tame. I've had emps with lots and lots of upgrades, and even while upgrading I've been pushing for their removal.
Finally a change I can cheer!

I have spent many billions on upgrades in the past. I will not shed one single tear when they are reverted back to normal. OK, maybe tears of joy. It is long overdue and very happy to see it started. Will be elated when it is finished with.

I would fully support a form of mech lab as opposed to upgrades. They are just way out in left field when it comes to balance, yes even for Neveron. With the level 1 sort of tech most of us are dealing with, have very minor changes able to be made. Research for more complex changes. Time, research, money to make radical changes.
I would consider a simplified version of Battletech Master Rules repair and salvage.
Burn the mech upgrade code, get rid of it forever.

Unfortunately, the mech upgrades were installed at a time when players were revolting against Randy over his lack of fixing bugs. Instead of fixing bugs, he called all FL and level 10+ empires into a chat room on a prearranged date to discuss what we wanted fixed. We waited the two weeks until that day, hopeful that things were finally going to get heard and fixed. We discussed proper ways to bring up topics without being rude, etc. Randy met us in the room (on time for once, which should have sent up the first red flag), greeted everyone, said "LOOK AT THIS COOL NEW FEATURE I JUST MADE!" and then promptly ignored everyone who tried to get the topic going where we were SUPPOSED to be.
Alas, FAR too many in that room fell for the bait-and-switch dog-and-pony show Randy had suckered them into, ignored the reason we had waited for two weeks, and began the back slapping.
Some of those issues still remain unresolved today. Now, instead of things on Nev getting fixed, we have the same old tricks from our new Master. 7 years, same issues.
And SM wonders why the old time players are just quitting in droves.
