Public Repair Bay - no movement repairs?

Does the Nev Gaming Commision Public Repair Bay NOT have the capability to repair tank's treads?
Is my only option to leave it as a turret, or to scrap it and cause the pilots a skill-loss?
I suppose I could leave it until that empire 'leaves the island', and hope someone elses' repair bay may be able to repair it?

Thanks Buc - The Nev Gaming Commission is game-run, correct? The one unit in particular is a Manticore (scout)...

Movement repairs require parts which requires ShadowMaster to get off his **** and get them. But since he can't find time to tell people what happened at codefest, I doubt he remembers he even has this job.

As mattbuck said, it is not game-run, it WAS player-run, then that player quit, so SM was doing it, but he may have quit too.

Certain move crits cannot be repaired. Axle crit means it is screwed permanently, so just scrap it or use it as a turret. Also, if I'm not wrong no move parts are bought for the public repair bay for vehicles over 50 tons and mechs over 40 or something like that.

Maybe I could see the too badly damaged to fix on some things, but no parts for all available units is another huge encumbrance and penalty for players excericising their strategy freely. Many of my start-up empires have had a single lance made up of a TWAC, 2 Snipers, and a Manticore.

The point of that was to get players off newbie island. SM's train of thought was that if you are using much more expensive units you shouldn't be on the island anymore.

Well honestly, if you can afford an assault mech, or have a lance of assault tanks, then yeah, you shouldnt be on the island. It still doesnt stop the vets on the island. Either they drop from the noob faction, or use highly skilled light mechs.

I disagree. Anyone should be able to experiment with any unit they wish within OMT/level bounds. If you put all your resources in a few big units you may or may not have a real advantage. Generally I create such forces to move off of noob island and have some chance on the mainland.

The responce was for people not dp'ing for units or money. If you save up nevbucks to buy the units, the time it takes could be spent on getting a few smaller units up and running as well as learning combat from them. Now without using the info you already have about the game, creating a force that could survive on the main land will probably be a mismatch of unit, not a maticulously planned affair. As well as alot of newer people dont ask for twacs and other items, since they dont know what good they are. People that can afford an good heavy/assault mech should be on the mainland, not noob killing.
Being able to experiment is great. Problem was with the noob hunters. Using a single mech (heavy/assault) can really do some damage to new players, and most wont come back after getting mauled a couple of times by 'supposed noobs' with them.
Even the casual player will leave after some treatment from the hunters as well.

When I started this game I spent 3-4 months on noob island learning the ropes. I spent days checking into various units. I spent weeks upgrading to more powerful units. In those days the public repair bay was much better stocked and one could message Koolaid and he would try and get what one needed.
I was also befriended in chat by Murray and Veli who helped me immensely. Later it was Murray who first helped me move to the mainland and accepted me into my first faction.
Once I got good enough warring I started new empires and went hunting the noob hunters. I had some limited success, but of course many returned and most of these wars forced me to move to the mainland due to hitting level 3, (at which point you cannot use the public repair bay). I continued this anytime I was able to merge small empires into larger ones. This was rare though because WWS rarely came around to do mergers, (or much of anything else).
Eventually I had my own faction and less time to bring up new empires. Then the new owner bought the game and due to his failure to live up to his commitments I quit donating. I used the last of my dp to make sure I had only 5 empires and all I have time for now is to burn infra and try and keep my emps alive.

Just a side-note - Any L0 empire that hasn't completed the n00b 'quest' for CF25 buildings is never going to survive off of the island... Like I've mentioned before, it's game-breaking to NOT be able to attack the 'ancient civilization'...
So what is there to do for a L0? Buy a 4mil vehicle and go attack other L0 empires, and hope for pilots' skill improvements. Though if when a vehicle is damaged, and my only option becomes to scrap it or decom it, thus removing any possible skill-improvements, the game-breaking feature preventing the building of larger buildings becomes more prominent.
And, I'm at an impasse with any of my other Empires, until my pilots improve. Else, I'll be forced to attack with a majority of skill 6 and worse pilots, against someone with 2's and 3's.
I know that trying to attack superior forces is part of the game. Though, so is waiting and rebuilding, training, and planning.

i got an empire on noob island running interference with a comp of mixed srm/slrm jeeps. gets attacked about once a week, and drives off the attacker without me logging on, hell, one night it surrendered an attacker, usually though i let the wars time out, i'm too busy.
so in short, pausinian warfare works.

Did not mean to sound as if I were disparaging the Pausanian method. I actually see a lot of value in creating a swarm of highly annoying units to drive my enemy as mad as Paus himself.
Paus knows I am kidding.
