For those who have patience

I'm the newest newbie ever...not that familiar with multiplayer games but I do like them very much...the one I like most is utopia (from swirve)...I don't know if any of you know that one too. However, I'm having some problems playing and so I have a few (very stupid) quistions:
1. My workers don't start to work...how do I make them work and make my buildings? 2. Can I explore land, and if yes how? 3. What's a good thing to do when you just started
I hope you guys'll take me serious and please answer those question....I"m sure more will come...thanks for your time!

Douht I've heard of the Utopia your talking about (As I had it on the amiga what 8years ago now) so you can tell them they are useing a TM name and should send me money for saving them from a law suite or better yet send it to randy with my user name. Joking Tips Tips Tips hum lets see..... Only 25% of your population work so for every comercial/reaserch factory building etc you need 4 houses the same size as the building they are surplying workers too. Workers will move from zone to zone where ever they are needed except for Civilian builders. Start off building a comercial as you already have a pop of 100 to start with. The build bloacks of 4 residentials and a comercial at a time. These will help boost your income. Always build the biggest buildings possible. Basiments are optional. Hire Infantry as builders. Civ Builders are far too unreliable and slow. You start off with 4 platoons worth of guns (112) I like to start with 2 lances so I'd buy another 112 rifles and hire the extra men needed when they arrive. Do not extend your land area very much at first if at all. Do not train foot rifles as it is a waste of time and money. Talk to your neightbours. This is as much a game of deplomacy as warfere. It is VERY useful to be on good terms with nearby empires. You cannot be attacked or attack until you are level 1. You are level 1 when you total pop added to your BV (BattleValue) equals 1000. Market tips There are no tanks worth over 40k and few more than 28k (None in my personal view are worth more than 30k) Do not buy anything like the geko scout for 80million or the shreck for 133million. Dueling Arenas Nice little money earner if you are lucky (Infantry) or (skilled Vehicles, Mechs) At the minute I have no luck at all (4 areana battles where I didn't hit and the enemy didn't miss helped me draw this conclusion) and I can't afford mechs so I don't duel but it is fun and if you have the nack for it will earn you a lot of money. Theres more but I got to go to bed. Challenger PS Read all the help files they will help. Challenger slumps over keyboard

You don't understand...My buildings aint progressing, I started them like 3 days ago and they're all still at 0% finished!!! How the heck can I help this? Or can I only build like 1 building at the time? I just started all 49 other buildings at once....or isn't this how the game works? I really don't know.

OK.
I did a lot of the same thing when I was starting (started a bunch of buildings all at once).
You should probably check out the little tutorial if you can find it. It helps a little bit. The problem with the Help files though is that they are scattered all over the place and some are blank. It is frustrating.
The first thing that you need to do is make four units. You buy troops for your guns (you start with 112 guns--buy troops at the Market screen, 28 at a time) and then outfit the troops with the guns at the Armory screen.
Then you should make a Commercial building. Generally I make all of my buildings the maximum CF (25 for you right now), the max floors (4), and add a basement.
The big problem with making large amounts of buildings at once is that the amount of building points that you get is split evenly between all of your buildings and then it is rounded down. The extra is lost forever. So your 49 buildings will never get bigger.
If they are extra small (less than max) then I would suggest tearing all of them down (except your starting Residential with 100 CF) and starting over with a big Commercial building.

Yeah. If there is space around you you can buy surrounding zones for 200k a piece. You check out everything by clicking the MAPS button at the top of the screen.

If you have no claimed soldiers then your empire is toast. Just one of those rules...
You actively control claimed members in battles. If you don't have any members claimed that are in the battle then the computer controls everything.
Before you can attack another empire in a land war you need to mobilize your units. Your units can do anything else you want to do if they aren't mobilized except that.

Also, there is a daily cost to keep a unit mobilized (I think infantry might be exempt from this, but I'm not sure). So don't mibilize unless you intend to attack someone.

Actually infantry cost about five times (more but I don't want to calculate it) as much. Maybe nine times... Because it is a by man sort of thing rather than a by vehicle maybe.

If you start building there, you can then name it. This would only be if you actually *can* build there... Some zones have a building capacity of zero buildings.

I believe that it is the range that you are setting for computer controls to use. So if you set the ideal range to 10 then the computer will try to stay ten hexes away from enemy units...

Sorry to bother this much...but what's the difference between foot, motorized and jump? I guess jump is the best right? Does it give other advantages then that you can move faster (which I guess this indicates, though I don't know how much each can move...please tell me)???

Well, I can give the basic ideas but I am not actually sure about the technical specifications. Hopefully someone else can fill in those details.
Motorized infantry ride around on motorcycles. The go a bit faster but other than that are the same (as far as damage, etc) Jump infantry ride around with jet packs. I believe that they go a bit further and they aren't affected by obstacles as far as movement goes...

Repairing vehicles and building other buildings

I had a vehicle damaged in the arena so I wanted to repair it. I bought a few techs on the repair screen and went to my damaged vehicle. When I click "repair unit" a screen shows up with all kind of possibilities...but for this you must select a zone with the proper equipment. I couldn't select none so my only conclusion is: I need to have a repair bay or alliance. The second choice ain't no good so I scrap that one...so now I have to build a repair bay...how do I do this??? I can only build residental, commercial and research facilities...And I guess there are much more buldings like factories to construct units....were can you build these and how??? Please help me...I appreciate all the time you put in me guys...thanks a lot!!!

Factories, first research 50cf bldgs to have the new option to build a factory. You will only be able to build assault rifles at the start , so you need to research say infantry mgs before being able to retool a factory to build them.
A level one repair bay (to reload ammo and repair armor) needs the following research (I think) Wheeled Vehicles (10 ton) movement Vehicle Armor
Some tech needs prior research , eg iirc Wheeled Vehicles (10 ton) movement needs motorised infantry researched first.
A level one is not too difficult from then onwards the research takes a very long time ..
See here for various details and lists .

Ok, so I'm a county now...ahoy!!! I just don't know what to do know...well, not really in the aspect of growing...what should I build now? I know it's up to me now but I'd like to know what others had when they were level 3, I make $47.000 with my commercials...and still growing but I only have 3 research facs though I think I'll go and build more of them...I have 2 mechs right now, one light and one medium, 3 lances of tanks: scorpions, strikers, scimitars...and I want to go and make another lance of heavy tanks...which are good??? I also like to buy another mech...I just don't know whether I should buy a light, medium or heavy...any help and tips would be appreciated...thanks a lot!

just keep growing. Go for more research buildings, definitely. By your size I had 6, and that's extremely few. Now I have alot (about 584 research jobs)

Well, for a level 3 you sure have plenty of weaponry around. Personally, if I were you, I'd train the heck out of those first. Buying more weaponry increases your upkeep costs, training those you have, doesn't. Not only that, but the morale bonus from training your units can bring a fair bit of extra cash in.
(Well, let me rephrase that: if I were your size _now_, I'd train those first. When I actually was level 3, I was happily guarded by 4 Schreks with 8/8 skill. Total. That was my whole army, except for the builder infantry. Then I manage to lose a Schrek, and spend a couple of weeks guarded by 3 untrained Schreks )

I think you should concentrate on mechs as overall they are the best unit.
Out of interest one of my level 2 empires , about to become level 3 ,has two lances of scorps , one lance of srm jeeps and 7 light mechs . I just bought the scorps and training them will take me into level 3.
I will use the jeeps to converge on and harrass any aggressor while the scorps hang back and volley fire into the enemy at range.
The light mechs with a variety of weapons , most with short ranged , but some have ppcs for ranged destruction (you gotta love Panthers!) can take more punishment than the vehicles and are cheap to maintain.
Once I have the defenders trained I will concentrate on income next. I donated for 50cf tech so I can make better use of my first zone and will consider donating for 75 cf perhaps later although since I have units that need ammo a better idea would be to donate for the tech to build a level 1 repair bay. Its only $18 I believe ?

I think I make a lance of Buldogg heavy tanks ac2 variant now and after that I'll concentrate making research facs...I'm not going to donate for anything! Oh, and btw I actually jumped into level 3 when I started training...I went from around 2000bv to over 4000 now!!! Everybody thanks for there comments again, it's really helpfull for me!

regular bulldogs would be better, also there's some cheap vedette A4's around. And yeah, I jumped into level 4. But not that way, i just almost completely took over this level 2 empire. I haven't done that with level 5, and its taking a loooong time.

yeah, that level 2 empire I mentionedd probabl had about 2500 pop with 200-400 BV. Of course, when I got to level 5 I was 1500 pop and 3500 BV. Then I got that guy and it evened it out. Now I'm about 9000 pop and 8300 BV.
