Good news on the economic front
      #87874 - 03/23/04 05:39 PM (129.138.30.194)

Recently the prices for production have been dropping, fueled mostly by dropping resourse prices almost across the board.

Since the prices were last tallied the following has happened:

The cost of Basic Metals rose by aproximately 37%, though are still selling at a slight loss to the producers.

The cost of combustables has fallen by almost 9%,

The mineral which has the biggest impact on prices, precious metals, dropped by 17000 a unit, or a reduction in price of 19%.

Another importain and expensive resourse, Rare Earth Elements, dropped in price by 15% to 76650 a unit.

Radioactive elements has seen a price increase of 1%.

Finally, the cost of Neveronium fell by around 7%.

What this means for producers is the ability to sell their product at lower prices and still make a proffit, especially if they do not have a mine. As an example the break even price for Vehicle Internal Structure used to be 39,000 to 40,000 a unit. That has dropped to 33,198 per unit recently, a price reduction of about 15%.

This has translated into an almost direct drop in prices for VIS, reducing the price by 10-11%.

The price drop for other markets, such as full vehicles and high end units, is expected to drop more slowly due to the lower number of producers (less producers = less competition), however even there small price drops can be seen in recent months. The cost of low end vehicles especially has dropped quite a bit, with SCP's being back down to 5 million each and even Jeep LRM's getting closer to 2 million each.

I'm just happy VIS is actually fairly profitable to produce steadily without a mine

Interesting trend though. Thanks for the info

This is positive news on the economic side indeed, as more producers will have a higher useage than before. This will result in higher productivity across the board, and as prices drop a bit armies will increase in size.

I actually saw a 'mech priced for less than 33 mill this very day. (WSP-1A. Does anyone use clints btw, I only see 2 non-standard variants on the market, ac/10 and ac/2 variant. No AC/5. )

Market analists expect a temporary increase in prices in 2-3 nevmonths, as sainta claus will be passing overland, losing presents all over the land.

Low-end vehicles still aren't very affordable to make if you buy resources, with NASI charging tax I would still lose money producing JEP-SRM... which sucks because it's the first (and currently only) vehicle I've been able to produce...

/me shrugs it off and starts researching 40 ton vehicle concepts

Though it is still good news, since maybe Strikers, Vanguards and high-end Scorpions will drop into a price range where defensive vehicles will become a possibility for lower-level empires.

I wouldn't have gotten into the jeep market if my life relied on it. Too many people rush for producing the easiest things, jeeps. However, even jeeps can be produced at a nice proffit if you have mines.

I will say that a lot of other vehicles can be produced at a proffit even w/o mines and if you knew exactly how much it costed to produce some of the tings that you would all be up in arms.

Example

Cost to produce a SCP-A1 last time I checked without any mines was around 3.3 million each. So, assuming that you do not have mines selling at 5 million really isn't too much to ask, about 2 million proffit per tank (though I do suppose that translates into a proffit of around 61%).

But if you have all mines you need? I believe the production cost for an SCP is closer to 850,000 each, so selling at a 5 million gives you a huge proffit. If you have mines it can be VERY proffitable to sell vehicles.

Just wait for the next monthly MPOGD check. Then you'll see the prices spike. I'm already stocking up vehicles to sell then. (not purchasing, building - the prices are too volitile to resell right now... And people have finally wised up and are dropping stuff at incremental prices instead of huge price drops)
