Naval training/bloodname question

Since this is my first post I'll take the opportunity to say hi. You can call me Jon, I'm a longtime fan of Battletech. I own just about every novel ever published, same with the field manuals and so forth. Read them enough that my girlfriend calls me a geek, that kinda thing.
I've always had a couple questions nag me about the Clans and how naval training/bloodnames work.
In most Clans (Snow Raven being the exception) it looks like aerospace pilots at some point can choice, or are forced to, make the transition to naval command. They seem to command their respective fleet's jumpships, warships ect. (I'd generally regard this as an unpopular choice for many clan pilots so I wonder if it's an unpopular career move).
My question is, after a clan warrior makes this transition, how would they earn a bloodname if they haven't already? In this instance augmented combat could amount to a warship versus an OmniMech. Not exactly a straight up fight.
In Clan Snow Raven there exists the naval command bloodnames, in their case it seems obvious that they either fight hand to hand or with personal weapons, or augmented, probably a warship simulator engagement. Obviously this is the exception to the rule however.
Any thoughts on the question or the broader issue of Clan warriors and naval warfare are welcome.
I started to post this on the battlespace forum, but then realized it also tied into the rpg, so I opted to make it a general discussion post.

It can be. On the other hand, I'm sure quite a few Clans kind of make it an honor to serve on a warship, and a lot of Clan warriors would probably groove on the opportunity to command so many warriors.

I don't know. You could probably receive a lot of input on the Clan forums here: http://forums.classicbattletech.com/
