Alternates for chat?

Guys, I'm over in Iraq and want to get into chat just to catch up and let my buddies know I'm ok. But because the only access I have is on government computers over a satellite link, Afternet.org and mIRC won't connect. What are some other alternatives for getting into chat? Or am I pretty much screwed? I'm not exactly thrilled will giving Haji $3/hour for wireless at 9600 baud.

I dont know of any alternate...
I woudl say that if the problem with afternet and your mirc is that it doesnt conect becouse port isues you try to connect on other ports, the usual port is 6667, you could try 16667 (wich I know its abailable for afternet also).
maybe any other can tell you for sure of other ports but if i had to guess i would say 6668,6669,7000,7010 (those worked in an old chat i used to join a long time ago but never tryed them ona fternet).
Good luck on irak!!!

Part of his problem is DoD regulations regarding use of their computer networks prohibits the use of things like IRC. He is hitting a firewall and you can get in big trouble bypassing a military firewall.

CaB has the right of it, for people in Iraq on the military network and dealing with the military firewall, there are no options. From the year+ of talking to my brother while he was over there, all we could find that was permissable was posting to bboards and email. Pretty much anything that didn't use the http port was locked down.

Well....looks like Haji's getting $3/hour! Good thing Redstar and Apples are watching my empires. Wish there was another way. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys, I do appreciate it!
