Im bored and have a few minutes before my mechs arrive so I thought I would post a noob army that gets me on a good start when creating a new empire. to take advantage of the minimum sp of 20 and maximize numbers I like to buy a cheap medium tank and a mixture of jeep lrm, srm and gecko scout tanks. purchase enough to fill a battalion, then train the Bat for 5 Rl days.

great now you have mostly 6skill units but you have great numbers. once you have organized the bat preset the ideal range of each unit to fit. remember higher skilled units have less chance to hit from longer distance. the Ideal range for jeep lrms should be set in a range from 13-19, jeep srms can be set lower from 5-8 even 3 if needed, geckos are 2. never 1 because enemy mechs can kick your units each turn increasing damage and to the small light units that means death!!

Nice now you got your bat organized and each know there job. time to rumble , but be sure to watch claim the battalion commander and keep him out the action. be careful of terrain, if in tight situations use battalion move commands or command each unit directly to get it free from hedgerows type forestand back into the open to where it may have a clear path to its objective

overwhelm your opponent with your shear numbers DO NOT fall vitim to scattering , your strenght is in your ability to over run your opponent, stay in a large pack micro manage if needed even mechs can fall victim to the speed and amount of light firepower you can direct. fight in terrain you have the advantage in, open flat areas do not get drawn into woods where mobile mechs have the upper hand.

have fun with this army, its disposible once you figure out how to fight effectively its easy to find people to give you cheap stuff to biuld a better army

GwB, one oher thing I found effective during my stay on noob island was IDF. Don't laugh just yet. I had a battallion similar to what you suggested. only one company was overly active. the others would benefit from random skill downs after war and training. In my one company, I would have maybe a lance, possibly less depending on what as on the market after a war of IDF units. Ripostes are cheapest, and are always underestimated. Snipers have a longer range and that additional LRM launcher, as well as a turret for a greater field of fire. Keep them to the rear of your advancing units. I always kept a GRD2 or two near by to discourage enemies that tried to get too close. Would enter zone, fight, then when the enemy started to get too close, would retreat, reload, then hit again. Many was the time I was able to leg, or get a critical hit on enemy mechs and vehicles, thus enabling my other units to swarm in for the kill.

Downtime:p and another tip to help Defend your empire. if you have larger citys or zones you need defended, defense towers can help greatly improve your ability to defend and take the place of units you feel to risky to be left out to defend. you will find some tower designs costly to Military Maintenance,here are some cheap effective tower to use

the lrm mkii 5 has a minimium range of 3 and with x2 range can reach 42 hexs depending on LoS the supreme range can provide fire support for units closing in on enemy units, missles have good crit chances to help disable enemy tanks

the Srm mkii 2 does 3 damage per missle, has no minimium range and with x2 range can fire at units from longer range. missles have good crit chances to help disable enemy tanks

MLs do 5 damage per hit have no minimium range and doesnt require ammo, groups of these can be very effective.

find flat wide open spaces to place them, the more open the better they can use there enhanced range. avoid placing them in areas where woods or cliffs and edges would give the enemy an advatage.you might wanna find a supplier for the parts by asking in chat for someone to sell you them possibly with a trade alliance
