Neveron announces the 1st Annual Player Appreciation Event
Let me start off by making it clear this event is NOT intended to take away anything from the incredible generousity of the players in past raffles. However, I have always felt that Neveron should have always hosted this type of an event.
The raffle tradition I think was started by USA players that celebrate Christmas. Obviously this is an international player base, and not everyone beleives that some old fat guy enters your home every year magically through your non existant chimney and leaves your family lots of toys and goodies!
As one of the key organizers and wanting to be politically correct and all that, I have been refering to it as a 'Holiday Raffle' for the last few years.
Trying to schedule this raffle with the international player base was always a challenge. I also felt hosting the raffle on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day is just a really bad idea. In recent years we moved it to New Years.
New Years usually worked better for several reasons. It is usually less 'family' orientated. Most people have the 'day off'. Usually people like to sleep after the New Years Eve parties and so forth.
So with all that being said...
Looking at some of the common player base time zones its easy to see we will always have a difficult time finding the 'perfect' time to hold smaller, time limited events.
I would like some thoughts from the NON USA players as what times of day might work best for you based on your 'typical' day in your region of the world.
I will decide on an official time as the date gets closer, and after I have heard some feed back here from the international players.
This meeting scheduler chart gives me a pretty clear view of the challenge to pick a best time to host the raffle.
As for the 'date' of the event. At first I had considered New Years Eve / Day.
There are also a few other 'dates' that we can use:
- November 30/ December: This was the date that the sale officailly occured. The entire month of December is when the servers began the trip from Arizona to New York.
- December: Any number of 'holidays' this month, so a politically correct 'Holiday Raffle' sounds good in theory, but scheduling it can be a hassle due to the extra real life activities of most people, especially those with 'family' nearby.
- January 21st: the domain 'neveron.com' was officially redirected to the NY servers and the game was 'back online'
- Feb 1st: The sale of Neveron was officially announced.
Note: This date will also be used as a pivot point for an annual Nev Con. Ideally there will be enough interest in hosting an annual Nev Con in Las Vegas, NV.
There are also plans to host an annual Neveron 'picnic', during August, in upstate New York.
Im not sure if we can pull together a Nev Con Vegas for 2012. There is just still SO much work to be done to get the game just running properly, let alone start generating interest from new / old players and idea development.
Should there be sufficient interest in attending a Nev Con Vegas February 2012, I will happily set it up. Ideally we could hold the annual "Player Appreciation Event" at the Con, which would really simplify about 50% of the player base and time issues, as many of us would be in one place. Then we simply schedule the raffle at a time that allows as many international players to join us as well.
NOTE: I plan to set up live cam feeds of the events at all Cons, so that those players who can not attend may take part to some degree in the events. Should the live feed not be feasable, we will definately have video of the key parts and host them on the forum for later viewing.
So what does eveyone think about an Annual Raffle, hosted in February, probably on a Saturday evening USA time? Does that work for you?
I would also like to see a list of suggested raffle prizes that Neveron could offer at this event.
