No, not hard. Most likely scenario is best summed up by the word "spite".
Once the veterans are gone and all the paying noobs have arrived I'm sure updates will be written.

followed by unlimited cash flow from the noobs who give him $2 and then get smashed by a noob hunter on the island using free market stuff. in fact, maybe that is where all the vets could go to show sm how much he really meant to us, we form an alliance and go around crushing new empires? hell, maybe then even i could win a war.
