Training Issue

I am currently training some of my troops. I have a problem. The skill level of the leaders of each unit is decreasing however the skill levels of the units they command are not. In fact the unit skill levels have not changed since last night. Is this normal? Because in one case I have a level 5 leader and his unit is a level 7. My empire is Pell's Dominion and my logon is ewingj. Thank You.

In the case of infantry, the unit skill is calculated as a weighted average of the skills of all soldiers in that unit. The weighing is towards the commander. Basically, the commander's skill counts as half the platoon. So in your case, since the commander is skill 5, and the average of the rest of the soldiers is around 8, the game calculates this as (5+8)/2 = 6.5, which rounds up to 7.
In case of vehicles, chances are that the commander is the driver of the vehicle. As such, only his driving skill is reflected in the unit readout. His gunnery skill is wasted, unless he switches seats with the gunner.
Training does not guarantee skill improvement to occur with every chance the units have. Each soldier has a base chance to improve in a relevant skill per training session, so it is possible to see no improvements for several sessions, followed by several improvements in a row.
