Mech Crits!
      #70226 - 08/22/03 11:58 PM (62.30.238.15)

I was thikning that mechs could do with more criticals though this idea will probably be dismissed by most.

I was thinking that we take sum stuff out of MW1 the game (yes i know neveron's based on battletech but its actually randytech so he can base it on whate ver he wants) I think when a mech gets hit in the head it might give a critical hit causing the comms to go down, this willl make the unit go onto AI as you cannot communicate with it. Also they might have a critical which destroys the sensor (i have no idea if they already have this one)

Ah well thats my idea so let the flaming begin,

Neveron actually has most of those criticals, just most of them don't do anything right now.

I was under the impression they were already bringing the mech crit table more into line with the Btech game. I'm not sure if head hits cause pilot damage in Nev, though, but that's the only automatic non-armor piercing crit to the head from the board game. That's always been one of the advantages of mechs in the game (btech) is that the chance of getting a non-armor piercing crit on a mech is like 2% while the chances of getting one on a vehicle is like 20%+ (I don't have my tables on me).

...and on a related tangent, the coolest crit I ever had was playing the board game... a Locust hit a Clan Vulture with a MG to the chest... three crits and a destroyed gyro later and the Vulture was toast. Granted, the return fire blew the Locust apart, but I'll trade 20 tonners for Clan heavies all day long, ya know?

I created an arena with a Cicada once(the one with the MG and PPC), a Catapult attacked, appeared right behind me, and shot out the PPC first turn. Turned around and shot the MG at him for the heck of it and got an ammo crit I think that was all my luck for the decade, have to be careful now

Heh, rock!

Had a buddy use his Wolverine to make a "push" attack against a Battlemaster and knocked it into a ravine/river. The Battlemaster had taken a head hit, so it had no armor there.... pilot drowned. Heh.

That's funny, guess they don't train mech pilots to swim I always wanted to see a light mech beat an assault by just pushing it off a cliff Would need to be a really dumb assault pilot though

Mechs can already get sensor crits, it makes it harder for your pilot to hit (hard to know where your enemy is without radar or IFF transmitters). As for making mechs crit more. It will never happen. There is one basic rule in Btech that is always followed, mechs are supposed to be the king of the battle fields and no conventional vehicle will stand in their way! It destroy the entire purpose of buying mechs. I buy mechs not just for their Weaponry and JJ capabilites (for some), one of the main is that their armor crits much less than vehicles and thus allowes them to stay in battle longer. If mechs lost that ability, there would be little purpose in buying mechs rather than vehicles other than for JJs.

...or like in the movies where the guy is soooo distracted he doesn't notice that he's fighting on a 200 meter tall precipice! Then, out of left field comes barrelling that crazy wasp pilot...

Our unit had a crazy NPC named Kim, he treated his Wasp like it had the armor of an Atlas. Jumped all over the map, shooting stuff. He would definitely be the crazy Wasp pilot you need

I love the PPC Cicada's They're so cool, who needs armor when you can run away and snipe

Well, lets see many light mechs have good close range weapons so closing in with light mech speed would'nt be too hard. And for long war campaigns, you will find armor to be a grave importance! Hit and run takes a long time and doesn't work for units that have equal or greater speed.

It would be quite funny if push attacks were there or a mech could just walk by a veichle and kick it over.

It would also be good if you could run over infantry where speed and piloting skill affects how many (if any) you kill.

You can do all of that Wulf. If you step on inf. with a mech it tells you how many you "smooshed" in the attack messages.

I ran out of ammo in a urbie, my SL was destroyed against a lance of inf. I took out 3 of the units before I finally fell by jumping back and forth "smooshing" infantry and staying hard to hit. . . it was a ball. . . finally my own inf. got there to finish off the last squad. . . Took the drop zone, and eventually the empire. . .

You can kill infantry with any anti-infantry weapon, MG's, SRM's, LRM's and flamers whether they are tank or mech mounted.

I've never got into that sort of trouble in LW. No infantry platoon or company has ever closed in on my units to do a single point of damage. That's why I like long range striking. But I always do keep a hunchback or crab around incase I become careless enough to not notice an infantry unit slowly closing in from behind.

And to add to my last post, I've always wished for an energy weapon with the range of an AC-2, I wouldn't mind if it only does 2 damfge, as long as it isn't as rare and expensive as the MK IV weapons, they take too much room and sacrifice too much speed and armor off a unit. Unless its a DP mech that is.
