When I preplace Units, and set them to defend only, so that they dont run onto the enemy on AI:
1) Can I still move them in battle when I go in to pilot them? 2) Can they be moved around zones as normal?
Thanks in advance,

Has anyone ever seen a Mech set to defend on AI turn and face the closest enemy?
If Mechs don't turn when set to defend on AI, I will have to rethink my pre-placement.

They do turn to face the enemy, however since they move first always it doesn't mean much once people get to range 6 or less. The best defense for your mechs is to hide them someplace they will not be attacked.

Yes, and don't give mechs a defend this location order.... I wish there was an option to tell a mech to "Run away like a frightened schoolgirl".

Nah, then they'd trip, fall, and cower as they're beaten up
Oooh.... maybe they'd use super magical powers like all schoolgirls seem to have in anime (Okay, I'll take my anime elsewhere now )

Well then they could just remove all CT armour and show their Internal chest structure.. and as most young girls such a thing would cause much confusion and shirking of assigned duties amongst the soldiery.

Sigh..... why do people always bring up nudity when anime gets mentioned?
lol, I guess that's what you'd call 'non-traditional' warfare though

Kit, I'm not sure you're correct there.
Last I knew, when a unit was set to defend a hex (when preplaced in a zone), they skipped the move phase entirely and therefore didnt face.
Could anyone else confirm/deny this?

Has this happened to you: 4 MG jeeps, 8 SRM jeeps, 2 LRM jeeps vs 1 MG jeeps, 2 SCP-A1, and a striker. My jeeps fan out and find one SCP-A1 and the mg jeep. I rush the mg-j with my emporer in a mg jeep, in three turn the enemy go's boom. The other scp shows up with the striker right behind it and a scp gets a lucky hit on one of my mg-j and blows the axle to bits. And then all my units turn around go back to the edge of the map we attacked from and stand there and get shot up. I made it out with one mg-jeep and 3 srm-jeeps.
Question 1 : Is there any reason they should do that. Question 2 : Is there any way to fix it. Question 3 : Does the ai fire a weapon only when it is the exsact IR range? Thanks for any help.

if they were on AI then they probably broke and ran.
you need to take direct control over units in cases like that.

or give them orders to attack a specific unit, using Orders in large battles is essential and can certainly turn the tide of battle.
One of the best features the admins have done in years is to let us give orders to AI.
