Pirates!
      #91959 - 05/21/04 10:57 PM (68.170.157.218)

Well, aparently the pirates are never going to attack me... so I suppose I'll just make up what happens... heh.
But first, a brief overview of the people in my lance. (And no, this isn't spellchecked, sorry.)

Kanil Kerai:Kanil is the emperor of Keris, after leading a sucessful military revolt against former leader Voraka Evliron. The people trust his ability to lead, both an army, and a empire, and while not as good of a shot as Islia, nobody else can pilot a 'mech as good as he.
Islia Ashir:A former Wolf freebirth, Islia managed to gain entry into the military caste, but quickly became discouraged due to taunting by the trueborns. Upon dispatch (and arrival) to Neveron, she fled from the Wolves, and now pilots a 'mech for Keris.
Joe Leil:A charismatic former civilian of Keris, Joe managed to impress military heads with his piloting skills, in a competition involving anyone who wanted to try out, however his 'mech is mediocre in comparison to that of his lancemates.
Varous Eslar:Little is known about Varous (if that's his real name), for he rarely speaks. However he is very formal upon the rare occasions when he is feeling friendly, and has a strong dislike for pirates. His preformance as a MechWarrior is average, at best.

Kanil was awoken by the clanging of a kitchen device impacting against what he presumed to be the floor. Accompanying the bang was a curse. He looked towards the kitchen, to see Islia standing there, looking back. "I see your up... finally" she said. Kanil blinked... his mind began to race with thoughs. "What is she doing here... and... why didn't she go home last night?" Hoisting himself out of bed, he hurried to dress and proceed to the kitchen, questions ready. As he entered the kitchen, Islia turned to him. "Good morning." she said. Kanil nodded, then began to ask, "Why are you here... you didn't go home? And... erm... did anything happen last night?". Islia shrugged, handed him a cup of coffee, and replied "I did go home, but I'm back, and what, do you think I'm attracted to you, or something?" and finished with a slight giggle. "Well... actually, I did... and, why did you come back?" Kanil said, inbetween sips of coffee. "Well, news is that we're under attack, pirates." she said, also drinking coffee. "Attack? Why didn't you wake me earlier... agh, come on..." Kanil said, hurrying to place his cup down and head towards the door. Islia followed for a moment then grabbed his arm "Wait... I didn't wake you up, because everyone is going to meet here, and I just found out myself...". Just as she finished her words, Varous entered the kitchen. He glanced at the two. "Morning..." he said, and then asked "Pirates?" to which Islia nodded. Varous shrugged, and clenched his fist. About two minutes later Joe arrived. He looked obviously upset at being awoken so early. "Here, this will improve your mood..." Islia told him handing him a cup of coffee. "Hope so..." Joe said, taking a seat. "Alright, we're all here, so..." Islia said, pausing for a moment "the pirates entered Keris territory about twenty minutes ago. Progress has been slow, as they have been searching for lookout towers placed roughly every three kilometers. Since our 'mechs are south of here, we will look to intercept them just outside Keris Central, assuming we leave now." Islia finished. Everyone acknowleged in one way, or another, and they all left.

Arriving at their 'mechs, the four hurried to get ready. Islia stopped to ask "Are we going to take any tanks?", Kanil's face seemed puzzled, he didn't expect the question to be asked. "Uh, no... the pirates are just fielding a couple of 'mechs, right?" Islia nodded, and they resumed preparation. As the four 'mechs all ran at varying speeds of slowness, Kanil began to get a bit nervous. "Here I am, the MechWarrior, going to protect my people... just like the knights of ancient Terra... well, here goes..." He yawned, and relaxed, for it would be a few minutes before they would engage the pirates. Waiting near the soft hills outside Keris Central, the lance remained absolutly still. He heard Joe's voice "Sensor contact... cresting that hill just to the..."- The rest of his transmission was cut off, as Varous fired 20 LRM missiles from the twin racks on his Whitworth. "Let it begin..." Kanil told his lance, and began walking towards the pirate 'mechs.

Well, I did not know there was a "maximum edit time"... (If I had, I would have wrote the other part sooner, but... anyway.)

The pirates fielded a pair of Phoenix Hawks, hardly a challenge. "I think they are 1K's..." Joe's voice announced... "'Cause that looks a bit like a laser lens in the torso there..." Kanil brought his reticule over the middle of the pirate's torso... activating the zoom feature, he saw what he presumed to be a laser lens... "Yeah, I think so... but it won't matter soon." he said, and unleashed his Panther's particle projection cannon upon the pirate. As he waited for the remains of the PPC blast to clear off of the pirate 'mech so that he could survey the damage, a cluster of misssiles slammed into it, clouding the area with smoke and debris. "Alright, who did that?" he asked. "Yo, damn good shot huh?" Joe replied. The Phoenix Hawks finally managed to get in range of their large lasers. The result was rather pitiful, as both beams of light utilized their senders very poor accuracy. He prepared to fire his PPC again, when he heard Islia's voice... "You might not want to sit still, give them enough time, and they might just hit." Keeping this information in mind, he activated his 'mech's jumpjets, and slowly drifted through the sky towards the two pirates. Landing a few paces shy of one, he lifted his 'mech onto its right foot, and brought the left one smashing down upon the Phoenix Hawk's right knee, shearing the leg right in half. The crippled 'mech fell onto its side, crushing its right arm, and weapons contained inside it. "You two, finish this one off, Islia, chase the other one..." he instructed, before facing the other Phoenix Hawk.

He watched for a brief moment as two combatants squared off. Islia's Wolfhound had more firepower then the pirate, but lacked in armor ("Not like it matters when they can't hit you..." she later said.). The resulting laser fire was quite the show, beams of crimson and emerald crossed the sky. He did, however, notice a large laser connect with the cockpit of the Phoenix Hawk, and the pirate's attempt to flee. Pursuit was rather boring, as neither side fired, until the pirate found himself trapped next to a cliff. His last desperate plea came over the comm' "Hey man, we're just pirates, ya' know. Some money, maybe a few spare parts, and we will leave without firing another shot.. nobody needs to get hurt, you know..." Kanil supressed a laugh, and made his reply. "Request denied." he informed the pirate, and raised his 'mech's right arm. One final burst of blue light lit the morning sky. "One less pirate..." he heard Varous say. He and Joe had since finished the other pirate, and brought their 'mechs up.

Fighting over, and damage check complete, it was now time to contact base. "Katana to base..." Kanil said... his reply was less then welcoming "Yes yes, what do you want?" a irritable voice said. "Well, hate to bother you so much, but we've got two heaps of scrap metal out here. Send the 'techs on over to go through them... and have our construction teams come help with the heavy stuff." Kanil said, in an equally irritable voice. Upon overseeing the 'techs arrival, the lance returned to Kae City, current capital of Keris. Stopping outside of his house, he climbed out of his 'mech. His lancemates gathered around him, and then he noticed something. Aparently, Islia has a pair of ears protruding from the top of her head. Wolf ears, to be exact, some sort of a 'good luck' item. "I wager those don't fit too well under a neurohelmet..." Joe said, upon noticing them. She turned to face him, while chuckling. "No, they don't." she replied, while slowly shaking her head. "They don't seem overly fashionable..." Kanil said, "But, anyway, I need some more coffee..." and with that, he turned towards his house, walked up to the door, and entered. A cup of coffee later, he was taking a nap.
