Anti-mech infantry......umm..questions.

  Okay. I have a question for y'all (I know I know I only show up if I have a question...sorry ).

I was recently playing myself a battletech game on the Megamek platform.

First: I play myself a fair bit, and as long as you are not partial to a particular side to win, you can do pretty decently. Sorta sucks, but I don't have the time to MP with others so ..

   Okay, the question.

In a sortof lazy type of day I decided to try a few units I normally never touch.

On one side I chose a few jump-capable anti-mech infantry, a few of the ultra-light hovercraft, and a few VTOL's.

On the other, a pair of Gnome Battlearmor (Units. 1 unit has 5 gnomes in it). and a Cougar.

Now Megamek supposedly adheres to battletech rules, well I have a question.

At one point the pair of hovercraft and two pairs of jump-capable infantry converged on the cougar. I (Playing as the cougar) figured that the hovercraft were the most prompting threat, so I engaged it.

The two jump infantries m -- GrantPrien

Battle Corps Anthology

Just picked it up yesterday and wow! I read two thirds of it after work. I was up until almost 5 am. I am thinking about getting a subscription to battlecorps, but I want to know if there are any other young Kerensky stories on the site? If so, that would seal the deal for me to join. One other question, are they planning on publishing (in book form) other anthologys? I don't mind reading online, but a book is so much more satisfying to me. -- Venom

Need to get caught up here.

After a breif(I thought) hiadus from BTech, the world as I know it is turned upside down. I left off in the middle of the FedCom civil war. I have recently bought the TRO:3075, Blake Ascending, and the Blake Documents. Prior to that I had all the FMs including updates, TRO:phoenix and TRO:3055 Upgrade.

The matters that I want to get caught up on are:

-What happened to Katrina?
-When did the Snow Ravens enter the IS?
-What the heck is going on in the Clan homeworlds?
-I know that the WoBs took Solaris 7, and then got kicked off, but the details of that campaign remain fuzzy.
-TRO:3075 refers to a -9S bansee and a new Zues, anybody got stats?
-WoB VSLs, anybody got stats?

I am quite confused and just want to know which books have the answers to my questions. Thanks in advance! -- Venom

The Rabid Fox Project

The Rabid Fox Project.

Well, what I am after with this goes in two directions, one is level 3 reconnaissance and the other is level 1 retro engineering. I think I will start with an abbreviated project background and focus on the retro engineering variant for feedback. Then maybe come back and branch into recon later.

The Rabid Fox is transforming into a CMCDesigns signature ‘Mech. It began as a Level 3 omnimech aimed at high speed, maneuverability, and stealth for the purpose of conducting covert operations. It is packed with high-tech level 3 equipment. One lance costs just about as much as a company of Atlases.

Unfortunately, for my purposes, the Rabid Fox omnimech was not much more than a fluff/concept ‘Mech, so I downgraded it to level 2. It retained its speed and maneuverability and has high end weapon systems, but I dropped attempts at stealth. The result is a skirmisher/recon ‘Mech. Stats summary: 6(12)/9/6, armor 99% of max, 12 tons of weapons (ER Large, 3 ER Medium -- KitK

Megamek/MekWars Server which goes through time.

"The Shack" a Classic BattleTech campaign using the MekWars/Megamek engine is open anew.

After a successful ending of the 2750 cycle, the players and all newcomers are welcome to get right into the Succession Wars. The Shack follows the whole history of the battletech game from beginning to end, slowly but steadily.

In resume:

- We go through time with an average duration of one to 3 months per Era. the Amaris Coup was just finished, with a win from the Star League. General Kerensky went on the Exodus.

- There are no account resets between Cycles, i.e., players who participated in 2750 are now the sole source of lvl2 tech to the campaign history. Players may also either change accounts or defect to a house which better suits their playing needs for the current Era.

- We play for the fun and the history. There is no Faction Tournament in the strict sense, if a specific faction attains its objectives or not just affects how the Universum goes in the future.

- We use AEROTECH and -- Ladob

Any Purpose?

I have a Battle Armor construction question:

Does mounting two standard battle claws enhance any anti-battlemech abilities? So far, I see no point to mounting two unless if they are magnetized. In fact, I see no point to using a Heavy one over a light one. -- Prince_of_Darkness

Problem with New Word Battle armor

I have been looking at two of the Word armors, namely the Tengu and Nephillim, and basically I feel like both are very poor. I like the feeling of "test armor" with the Tengu, but I feel like the concept of "assault-Armor" on the Nephillim has been lost- most variants use secular armaments (like OS LRM 2) and Rocket Launchers, and the Heavy Battle Claw serves no real purpose other than to eat up tonnage.

Does anyone also get this feeling? -- Prince_of_Darkness

Evolution of armor

I was watching a program on the History Channel about the evolution of armor and how advances were spurned on by advances in firearms technology. It got me thinking. Since the dawn of modern battlemechs, ie after the Mackie, a ton of armor was 16 points and a 100 ton 'mech could only carry 307 points. Granted in level 3 we now have hardend armor, we still have a lapse of about 400 years where the only advancements in armor made them lighter as opposed to offering more protection.

By way of comparison we have had bullet-proof vests that would stop the majority of pistol calibers for about 50 years. Now we have vests that will stop rifle rounds up to and including 7.62x39; not to mention the fact that they are significantly lighter.

I understand that changing the rules could be difficult(ie units produced at separate times, fighting against eachother, repair, etc) but no more difficult than the transition to the rise of the Clans.

I just find it hard to swallow that the Clans co -- Venom
