History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

During the Star League era the Sixteenth Galedon Regulars shared a common structure with the other regiments of the Galedon Regulars, due to the threat posed by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. This common structure saw the Sixteenth assigned a group of conventional regiments for support - five armor regiments and five infantry regiments, an artillery regiment and a reinforced aerospace fighter wing. Second only to the Sword of Light regiments in priority, the various Galedon Regulars regiments had excellent levels of supplies, and a high level of access to new BattleMechs and equipment. However, despite this combined-arms organization, the pervading belief among DCMS MechWarriors of their own supremacy over conventional assets caused notable animosity between the Regulars' BattleMech officers and those of their conventional support.[2]

Third Succession War[edit]

In 3025 the unit was stationed on Oshika.[3]

Fourth Succession War[edit]

During the war, the Sixteenth participated in the campaign against Wolf's Dragoons, facing them on Glenmora and Crossing.[4]

Ronin War[edit]

The Sixteenth fought well during the Third and Fourth Succession Wars, but was relegated to garrison duty in 3033 after offending the Warlord of Galedon. During the Ronin War, the unit's commander threatened to side with the rebellious Warlord of Dieron unless his unit was given a better assignment. This action damaged the unit's reputation and priority listing for new equipment. The commanding officer who threatened to side with the ronin forces was relieved of command.[5]

War of 3039[edit]

The Sixteenth was assigned to assault Thestria and remove the AFFS forces that were on the world. The Dioscuri's Castor Regiment faced the Sixteenth and engaged in a bloody series of battles that inflicted heavy losses on the Regulars.[6] The First Proserpina Hussars arrived to support the Regulars, and the CO of the Hussars offered the mercenaries a chance to withdraw. Outraged by this, Tai-sa Leonard Kobayashi (a strong traditionalist) ordered his Sixteenth Regulars to attack the mercenaries. The Dioscuri troops destroyed the Regulars battalion while the Proserpina Hussars just watched. The mercenaries then took as much salvage from the wreck of the Regulars as they could and left the world. Tai-sa Kobayashi and several other high–ranking officers committed seppuku to atone for their poor performance.[7]

The unit's new commander worked hard to improve the unit's reputation which had suffered because of their commander's actions during the Ronin War and their performance in the War of 3039. For the next thirty years, the Sixteenth was used only as a garrison force, seeing little combat.[5]

Dominion War[edit]

The Sixteenth and the Second Genyosha recaptured Marduk from attacking Draconis March forces. They also went on to take Breed away from the Federated Suns.[8]

Jihad[edit]

Based on Senorbi during the Jihad the Sixteenth Galedon Regulars took heavy losses from Black Dragon Society sympathizers and rogue yakuza forces. Between the terror attacks of the traitor yakuza and the influence of the Black Dragons, the Sixteenth found more than half its equipment and warriors destroyed. At the close of the Jihad they remained on Senorbi.[9]

The Sixteenth responded to the yakuza attacks by eliminating most of the yakuza on Senorbi. The Sixteenth spent the rest of the Jihad defending the Combine's border with the Outworlds Alliance as a counter to adventurism by Clan Snow Raven. The Ravens never jumped the border however. Later, the DCMS High Command ordered the Sixteenth to take Budingen from the Snow Ravens after the Clan took that world. The Sixteenth was unable able to do so, but did inflict heavy losses on the Gamma Galaxy defenders.[10]

Dark Age[edit]

Late Dark Age Era[edit]

During the 3130s, the unit would remain stationed on the Raven Alliance border, where it would focus on specializing its tactics to cope with Clan Snow Raven raids and possible attacks of their own against them. Notably, Regiment would be enhanced with three additional conventional forces. These would include a Combat Vehicle Regiment, named Nest Reavers, focused around assault tanks and fast hovercraft. The unit's infantry regiment, the 252nd would enhanced with Assault Battle Armor. The Regulars' aerospace attachment, Raven Hunters, is focus their specialization on ground assault, while notably less skilled engaging enemies in space.[11]

3144 Invasion of the Federated Suns[edit]

In 3144 the Sixteenth Galedon attacked McGehee as part of the Draconis Combine's advance into the Federated Suns. There they faced the Fourth Robinson Strikers. The Regulars ground down the Strikers' positions and overtook a number of command outputs. However, the specialized Battle Armor elements from the Strikers' 302nd Amphibious Platoon would end up conducting a daring raid while FedSuns prisoners were being transported by watercraft. The Regulars would ultimately force the Strikers to withdraw from the planet, however the Regulars took heavy casualties in the process.[12][13] They were also part of the attack on Rowe.[14] During the assault on Rowe, their assault company was filled with Tenshi OmniMechs. They would conduct campaign that would lead to destruction of the Rowe militia and ultimately level its capital of Kirstie.[15][16]

Tactics[edit]

2765[edit]

Due to the high number of Sun Zhang Military Academy and Galedon Military Academy recruits within the Galedon Regulars, the Regulars often displayed fanatical loyalty and courage. However, the elitism displayed by these same recruits led to poor coordination between the Regulars and the attached conventional forces, who were often used as cannon fodder.[1]

3025[edit]

This unit was specialized in city fighting skills.[24]

3028[edit]

The Sixteenth was a generally competent regiment with superb reconnaissance capabilities due to its abundance of VTOL craft.[25]

3063[edit]

The Sixteenth relied on reconnaissance from its detachment of VTOL craft. This aided them in the urban combat that was their specialty, as VTOLs perform admirably in such terrain, while aerospace fighters do not fight as efficiently in it.[5]
