The Afarsin system is the location of at least one habitable world,[1] and as of 3145 was a part of the Magistracy of Canopus.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

The Afarsin system is located near the Bass and Lindenmarle systems.[4][5]

System History[edit]

The Afarsin system was settled at some point prior to the end of the Age of War, and at some point either joined or was annexed by the Magistracy of Canopus.[4] During the Star League era Afarsin was a part of the Canopus District of the Magistracy.[6]

Reunification War[edit]

Afarsin was a member of the Magistracy of Canopus when a Star League Defense Force task force under the command of Captain-General Marion Marik was assigned to conquer the Magistracy of Canopus in 2577. Afarsin was targeted by the SLDF in 2583 with the Fifty-fifth Brigade from VII Corps assigned to conquering Afarsin and with the Fourth Marik Militia, Second Oriente Hussars, Second Orloff Grenadiers and Third Regulan Hussars in support.[1][42]

Afarsin was an agrarian world of little strategic importance and was conquered in short order by the SLDF task force, part of a lightning campaign that saw four worlds conquered in two months, completing the encirclement of Canopus. Afarsin would be occupied by the SLDF for the remainder of the war; once the Reunification War ended, a number of Magistracy worlds were annexed by the Free Worlds League, but Afarsin remained a part of the Magistracy.[1][9]

Fall of the Star League[edit]

During the final years of the Star League, Afarsin served as the main supply depot for the LXXII Corps (Star League). Thus a substantial Star League Defense Force garrison was positioned on world. While this substantial force kept the world safe, the troops stationed there had more free time then they knew what to do with. The commander of the 279th BattleMech Division, Major General Janice Pigot, decided to put her Academy experience as a volleyball player to good use to resolve this issue. The recordings of BattleMechs rolling in sand dunes while batting a large ball between them could be found on worlds dozens of light years away.[43]
