The Alya system is home to at least one inhabited world, Alya II, and as of 3151 is located in the Algedi Prefecture of the Dieron Military District within the Draconis Combine.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Alya system has a class G2IV star and nine planets; one of the outer planets in the system is an abnormally large gas giant that has a strong gravitational influence on the other planets within the system.[1] The Alya system is located near the Altais and Kaus Borealis systems.[3][4]

System History[edit]

The Alya system had been settled by the mid-twenty-fourth century[5] and may have been settled during the First Exodus from Terra.

Alya II, more commonly known simply as Alya, is the second of nine planets in the Alya system. Alya and its single moon, Xanadu, are characterized by both the unusual elongated revolutionary cycle around the system primary and by Xanadu's unusual orbital path, both of which are the result of the gravitational influence of the huge gas giant in the outer reaches of the Alya system.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Alya was first settled for its mineral and fuel resources. The planet has a hostile atmosphere, and as such cannot grow crops in the soil. To survive the Alya's residents used hydroponic farms to grow their crops. Making things more interesting for the colonists was the presence of a large gas giant in the outer orbit of Alya's primary star. The immense gravity from this gas giant affects all the members of the Alya system, resulting in an unusually complicated day/night and seasonal cycle. The population created calendars and day planners for their world that adjusted for the unusual day/night and yearly cycles, and these calendars remained in use for at least a thousand years.[1]

Despite these challenges, Alya's rich petroleum resources allowed local plastics and petrochemical industries to thrive. The refined fuels produced on this world were be used in any number of internal combustion engines. Alya was considered a low priority for conquest, and was left largely untouched by the Succession Wars.[1]

Jihad[edit]

A mixture of Word of Blake troops and Blakist-employed mercenaries conquered Alya in a two-week campaign fought in mid-May 3069 using conventional means; Alya was then incorporated into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[39] In late August 3075, forces from Clan Ghost Bear[41][42] led by Delta Galaxy and designated Delta Wave by the Ghost Bears[51] arrived and launched a campaign to liberate the planet, ignoring all hails from Draconis Combine forces[41][42] and securing the flank of the Ghost Bear push towards Terra.[51]

Dark Age[edit]

During the period following the Blackout, Alya was able to create ICE BattleMechs. In July 3135, the Stormhammers took the planet from Clan Jade Falcon, placing it under Lyran Commonwealth control for a time. Later cut off from the Commonwealth by the Jade Falcon Reach and the Vega Protectorate, Alya had fallen back under Draconis Combine rule by 3145.[48][49][3]

Geography[edit]

Alya has a number of continents. The northern continent of Paroasis is dominated by rocky badlands under which lie abundant fuel and mineral resources; Paroasis also has a landlocked sea named the Saline Sea. Two continents lie in the southern hemisphere, Desije and Zenishli, and both are characterized by their abrupt mountain chains, rolling hills and unspoiled evergreen wilderness.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Flerise City: center of Alya's planetary industry; located 500 km east of LeSabrea[1]
  • LeSabrea: planetary capital city and commercial center, located on the western shore of the Saline Sea on Paroasis[1]
