The Angol system is the location of the inhabited world Angol III and as of 3151 was located in the Tikonov Commonality of the Capellan Confederation.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Angol system is located near the Achernar and Alrescha systems[3][4] and has a single class M0IV primary orbited by five planets.[1]

System History[edit]

The Angol system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra and has changed hands a number of times over the centuries.[1]

Angol III - more commonly known simply as Angol - is the third planet in the Angol system.

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

When Angol was discovered by humans it was already a frozen planet, locked in orbit around a small, dying red star; Angol had been a habitable planet before the system primary began shrinking, with a fossil record which showed that life had existed on the planet before the world's oceans and atmosphere froze into glaciers that stretched across the planet.[1]

Angol was first settled by prisoners and other "undesirables" from nearby Tikonov; the founders and ruling family of both Tikonov and Earthwerks Limited, the Carinus family, modeled their government on that of the twentieth century Soviet Union, and used Angol as their equivalent of a Siberian gulag. Those involuntary colonists who found themselves sentenced to decades of harsh work on Angol extracted rare metals from the planet's surface for use in Tikonov's factories.[1]

When the Tikonov Grand Union joined the Capellan Confederation in 2366 the citizens of Angol appealed to the Terran Hegemony for protection, and the Hegemony obliged, incorporating Angol into the Hegemony. That led to a period of steady improvement in the standard of living for the population.[1]

Succession Wars[edit]

After the fall of the Star League the Federated Suns initially claimed the Angol, which found itself the tip of a Federated Suns salient into the Confederation for much of the Succession Wars. During the Succession Wars, the system was rapidly built up and its military garrison increased for use as a staging base for AFFS raids into Confederation space. It remained part of the Federated Suns until after the Jihad.[1]

First Succession War[edit]

Having initially been annexed by the Federated Suns, Angol was conquered as part of a small-scale Capellan Confederation military operation launched in early 2787; in addition to capturing Angol, by August 2787 the CCAF had also captured two other former Hegemony worlds that had been annexed by the Federated Suns, Rio and Tybalt.[13]

The Jihad[edit]

The Word of Blake attacked and conquered Angol during September 3069, incorporating it into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[32] Angol was targeted by forces from the allied coalition against the Word of Blake, with allied forces assaulting the planet on the 9th of September 3076.[40][41]

Geography[edit]

A frozen wasteland with a poor atmosphere, Angol lacks oceans and continents as all of the surface water and much of the atmosphere is now locked in glaciers that stretch across the planet.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Carius's Cache: the planetary capital city, located near the south pole.[1]
