The Ankaa system is the location of at least one inhabited world, and as of 3145 is located in the Robinson Operational Area of the Draconis March within the Federated Suns.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

Ankaa is located near the Addicks and Hean systems[2][3] and consists of a bright white class A8III primary orbited by two planets.[1]

System History[edit]

The Ankaa system was settled in the twenty-sixth century, four hundred years after the first JumpShips entered service and during the closing decades of the Age of War.[1] By the time the Age of War ended, the Ankaa system was a part of the Lockdale Province of the Terran Hegemony.[4]

Ankaa I, more commonly referred to simply as Ankaa, is the innermost of two planets in the Ankaa system and is a hot, very dry world with four moons named Al Anqa, Al Nair, Al Ri'al, and Al Zaurak.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Ankaa wasn't settled until four centuries after the first JumpShips left Terra. Settled by Muslims, the hot world resembled the African and Middle East regions, but the middle latitudes and equator were far harsher and hotter than any Terran desert. During the Terran Hegemony the colonists sought to make Ankaa a new center of their faith. During the Star League geologists found rare metals that greatly enriched the population.[1]

Star League Era[edit]

In January 2775, Stefan Amaris redeployed large numbers of Amaris Empire Armed Forces to a dozen worlds, including Ankaa. AEAF units had used weapons of mass destruction regularly against Star League Defense Force units throughout the Hegemony Campaign, predominantly to either damage the SLDF units targeted or to strike at civilian targets to prevent the SLDF from obtaining resources and supplies. In this case, Amaris' orders were different: he intended to create scorched wastelands that Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky would have no choice but to try and clear, whilst saddling the SLDF with huge numbers of sick and starving civilians. The AEAF units deployed to Ankaa and the other eleven worlds due to be abandoned by Amaris launched large-scale WMD attacks with one purpose: to ravage the worlds, preventing them from sustaining either their human populations or their various industries... to create wastelands.[52]

The AEAF tactic was both brutal and brutally effective. Kerensky deployed twelve corps of SLDF personnel into Amaris Empire space, and each discovered the same horrific situations. Forced to deploy the SLDF reserve into action, by February Kerensky had almost a hundred SLDF divisions either on the twelve ravaged worlds or en route to them, trying to provide aid to the populations and to clear up what damage they could.[52] Ankaa fell within the operating area of Task Force Commonwealth, and the Nineteenth Army Group deployed LXV Corps to try and assist the population.[53] The devastation wreaked across Ankaa and the other worlds bought Amaris time; for several months Kerensky was unable to resume offensive operations because of a lack of resources, and ultimately the Commanding General had no choice but to call on the Capellan Confederation, Lyran Commonwealth and Federated Suns to provide relief where they could.[52]

First Succession War[edit]

The Capellan Confederation launched a small-scale offensive against the Federated Suns in early 2787, intent on capitalizing on the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns focus on the large-scale invasion being conducted by Coordinator Minoru Kurita and huge numbers of Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery units. The Capellan attack involved three waves of planetary invasions, each targeting three former Terran Hegemony worlds that had been annexed by the Federated Suns; the first wave was complete by August, and the second by October. Ankaa was one of three worlds hit in the third wave, along with Addicks and Small World. The invasions were a success, and Addicks was under Capellan control by January 2788.[14]

Third Succession War[edit]

The Confederation continued to control Ankaa until the Federated Suns recaptured it in the Third Succession War.[1]

Jihad[edit]

The population was devastated during the Jihad,[1] a consequence of the Word of Blake two-week campaign to capture the world in mid-May 3069 that saw Blakist forces and affiliated mercenaries use nonconventional weapons as a part of their assault to conquer the planet and incorporate it into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[43] Ankaa is noted as having been liberated in a near-bloodless victory for the allied coalition forces in mid to late 3077 as a part of the Federated Suns front of Operation SCOUR,[54] and despite the devastation inflicted in 3069, several Nova Cats (attracted by the spiritual vision of the population) relocated to the world after the end of SCOUR.[1]

Dark Age[edit]

In 3110, Angelo DiNapoli founded DiNapoli Industries on Ankaa, manufacturing a range of items including AgroMechs and DropShips. By 3130 DiNapoli Industries was the largest AgroMech manufacturer in Prefecture IV and the fifth-largest AgroMech manufacturer to be found anywhere in the Republic of the Sphere. In 3132 Jacob Bannson, the owner of Bannson Universal Unlimited, launched a successful takeover of DiNapoli Industries.[55] Bannson laid off almost 10% of the total DiNapoli Industries workforce in the following months, leading to large-scale union protests.[56][57]

Starting 19 December 3132, the factions known as the Steel Wolves and the Swordsworn clashed against each other on Ankaa.[58] The arrival of the Steel Wolves was initially viewed with some optimism, due to the manner in which Jacob Bannson had treated the employees of the DiNapoli Industries plants the Steel Wolves had come to annex. That soon changed, as battles between the Steel Wolves and Swordsworn left hundreds dead and thousands injured in and around Anqabad.[57] Despite the Swordsworn's efforts, the Steel Wolves retained control of the DropShip manufacturing facilities.[59]

Military Deployment[edit]

3069[edit]

Geography[edit]

Ankaa is a small world constantly blasted by the white-hot star that dominates the Ankaa system; with very little surface water, Ankaa lacks such distinctions as oceans and continents and combines a deadly climate with desolate but beautiful landscapes.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Anqabad: the planetary capital city[1] and site of the DiNapoli Industries facilities on Ankaa.[55]
  • Great Maze: A twisty network of icy canyons and hills around the North Pole.[61]
  • Al Kazim: The northern polar region's third largest mountain.[61]
