Planetary History[edit]

Beta VII was one of four worlds acquired by the Rim Worlds Republic between 2347 and 2371 as an attempt by Arabella Rowe to expand the capabilities of the Republic armed forces; Beta VII was intended to be a "hedgehog," a giant fortified firebase that Republican forces could use to slow the advance of any invading force.[3] The Lyran Commonwealth annexed Beta VII during the 27732775 Commonwealth–Republic War.[10]

During the late Third Succession War the world of Beta VII maintained a Commonwealth base.[31]

Clan Invasion[edit]

Beta VII was conquered by Clan Jade Falcon during the Third Wave of Operation REVIVAL in June 3050. At the time the planet was defended only by the ill-equipped Beta VII Militia, composed of a lance of Locusts and Valkyries, a company of tanks and an infantry battalion. When the 124th Striker Cluster attacked they made short work of the defenders: Star Colonel Abraham Chi-Li personally destroyed the light 'Mech lance by himself, stating later that he had found his Trial of Position to have been a more difficult fight, and the infantry were easily routed by the battle armored Elementals. Only the tank company gave any good account of themselves, destroying three OmniMechs before being wiped out. While a few militiamen escaped into the woods to continue resistance, the majority returned to civilian life.[32]

Notes[edit]

  • The novel Decision at Thunder Rift, a very early product, mentioned a number of worlds that were not mentioned elsewhere in BattleTech canon for decades to come. In the novel's German edition, these were exchanged for other (canonical) worlds. Drune II thus became Beta VII in the German edition, leading to some speculation if they might be the same system in BattleTech canon proper. However, the existence and location of Drune II has been confirmed in canon since, establishing it as a different world from Beta VII.[31]
