Category talk:Periphery Character Images

Pirates[edit]

It seems to me that in this category what we have are pirates. Maybe we should rename the category.--Pserratv (talk) 05:46, 14 March 2019 (EDT)

Ideally, I think the character images categories should mirror Category:Characters. So a new sub-category for pirates, plus some reorganization? --Cache (talk) 08:11, 14 March 2019 (EDT)
I've come to regard excessive categorisation as a chore, and as such I question the value of subcategories for the Images category. It might make sense to sort Characters into sub-categories such as affiliation or profession; but the Images are just files on Sarna, i.e. more an administrative matter. As files, "Periphery Character" images are not different from any other character (or vehicle, or box set) image. Frabby (talk) 05:50, 15 March 2019 (EDT)
My question is more on this: we have characters per nation... and profession (mercenaries)... and then we have Periphery, which we could use for any periphery character out of the "big" ones, but then again big is subjective... Frabby feels to many categorization is not good, so my suggestion would be: Pirates as a profession and full category, and characters for small states like Herotius, Fieldom of Randis... here in Periphery. WHat do you think?--Pserratv (talk) 05:54, 15 March 2019 (EDT)
I am of the belief that everything on the wiki should have at least one catergory, and I make a LOT of use of the category system to navigate the wiki, but I agree with Frabby that the images probably do not need as much catagorisation. We could probably get away with one huge character images category.
But anyway.. In answer to Pserratv, I spent a lot of time cleaning up the Character catagorys with the intent that the character articles would end up something similar to modern nationality, where as previously it had workd on about a dozen systems. (I still need to eliminate Category:Infantry Characters, Category:Spies and Assassins, that last Category:Minor Characters and the weird ComStar only rank related categorys when I get around to it) The Mercenaries, Pirates and your games categories are special as all three represent groups of people who have become essentially semi-stateless (their job allows then a level of neutrality from the usual very strict system). Category Periphery characters is another beast entierly, using our own systems standards the category should really be called Category:Independant Characters in order to reflect their home planet being independant or a very small state but "Periphery Characters" happened because "Independant Characters" can be interpreted in far too many ways for it to work as intended. The small states could be spun out but it is the fine line between what is almost a "minor" category and having a bunch of categorys that will likely never have more than 10-15 characters--Dmon (talk) 07:47, 15 March 2019 (EDT)
