Erit Star Cluster

Description[edit]

The Erit Star Cluster (or simply Erit Cluster) is a star cluster situated within the area otherwise known as the Dark Nebula, approximately 700 lightyears coreward from Terra. It comprises of twelve stars, with four (Erit, Nakfa, Sebderat, and Drovahchein) featuring planetary systems in the habitable zones.[1]

The Cluster's capital city is Gharisport, on Drovahchein II's minor southern continent.[2][1]

History[edit]

Following the Erit Cluster's discovery by the Rim Worlds Republic's RWRS Sarkor in 2456, all four were colonized and terraforming efforts were undertaken.[1] Although the Dark Nebula area is notoriously difficult to navigate, a trade hub developed and shipyards were established in the Eritese systems to service visiting vessels.[1]

The cluster was occupied by the Star League in the Reunification War and the Department of Mega-Engineering used its industry to help build the Camelot Command naval base elsewhere in the Dark Nebula. Trade flourished and the Eritese grew wealthy, though they would later secretly support the Rim Worlds Republic's efforts to build a navy of their own.[1]

Following the Amaris Civil War and the demise of the Rim Worlds Republic, the Lyran Commonwealth annexed the Dark Nebula (and the Erit Cluster within it), but largely left the Eritese traders to their own devices.[1]

As of ca. 3024, the Erit Cluster was described as "a tiny island of relative prosperity and technology in a rising sea of barbarism"[2] and was nominally under the rule of House Steiner, though actually ruled by the traders of House Mailai, who maintained a network of trade contacts between the Eritese systems and the Lyran Commonwealth as well as Periphery systems beyond the Commonwealth's border.[2] During this time, the techs of Gharisport were still capable of overhauling a worn-out JumpShip, as they demonstrated on Renfred Tor's Merchant-class Invidious in or shortly before 3024.[2]

During the Clan Invasion, the Dark Nebula was initially ignored, and any attention it received was focused on the Camelot Command naval facility; it was only after the Battle of Tukayyid in 3052 that Clan Jade Falcon assumed control of the Erit Cluster and assimilated House Mailai's operations into their merchant caste.

In 3071, Clan Ice Hellion assaulted the Jade Falcon holdings and seized Camelot Command; it is unknown if they also attacked other systems in the Dark Nebula. In any case, Clan Jade Falcon defeated the Ice Hellions in concert with Clan Hell's Horses in the following year and Clan Hell's Horses migrated into the Inner Sphere, taking over the Erit Cluster.[1]
