A division of Technicron Manufacturing, Forerunner A.G. is a notable Free Worlds League manufacturer of Jump Sails for various JumpShips.[1] [2]
Overview[edit]
For many years Forerunner A.G. had something of a mixed reputation, known as longtime producer of high-quality jump sails, yet said jump sails were also prone to maintenance problems. The photochemical coating process used by Forerunner made their sails more effective when compared to processes used by other manufacturers, but the same process also made the sails more fragile and weaker than those of its competitors. Thus while cutting recharge time by an average of five percent, Forerunner sails often required more than the standard amount of maintenance, keeping the League's drydock facilities busy.[1] [3]
By the Clan Invasion, Forerunner A.G. produced sails for the Scout, Invader, and Star Lord-class JumpShips common to League space. While Forerunner also retained the ability to produce sails for the Merchant and Monolith-class JumpShips, it only did so by special order as these ships were no longer produced in the Free Worlds League.[1]
Forerunner A.G. won contracts to supply sails for the massive Impavido-class WarShip, but quality control issues caused several significant delays to the program. This prompted Technicron Manufacturing to launch a hostile takeover for Forerunner A.G. with the tacit approval of the LCCC. Forerunner sails produced since the takeover showed slow but steady improvements in reliability, with their previously overly complex furling mechanism replaced with a simpler and more robust model without compromising the sails' superior power-transfer capabilities. Despite this, the former management of Forerunner staged several legal challenges to the takeover and their disenfranchisement, but all these were dismissed.[2]
Though they took no damage during the Jihad, a lack of parts forced them to focus on the Jump Sail for the Invader class JumpShip. This allowed their production partner, Technicron Manufacturing to produce the JumpShip quickly and provide capital for both companies.[4]
