The Four Horsemen of Errai were a mysterious lance of Wyvern BattleMechs credited with the defense and protection the Errain city of New Atlanta during the Second Succession War.[1]
Overview[edit]
The former Terran Hegemony world of Errai was the site of Maltex Corporation's primary production facility for the Wyvern and the Thug BattleMechs, a fact that made it target during the unrestricted warfare of the period. In 2835 a battalion of raiders, carefully disguising their 'Mechs to prevent identification or retaliation, struck Errai and destroyed the Maltex plant and razed a number of surrounding towns as they advanced toward the city of New Atlanta.[1]
But as the city braced for the worst, a single lance of Wyverns assumed to be the remnants of the Maltex security force suddenly intercepted the larger group less than a kilometer out from the city outskirts. Using their jump jets to leap into the middle of the raider's formation, the four Wyvern struck like a whirlwind, causing many of the raiders to fire upon their fellows as they desperately tried to engage the four medium 'Mechs. Enraged and humiliated at being bested by such a poorly regarded design, the raiders raced after the four Wyvern as the quartet fled around the city and over the nearby mountains. Breathing a sigh of relief, the citizens of New Atlanta feared their respite was momentary and that the raiders would eventually return after their superior numbers allowed them to eventually triumph against the lance of Wyverns.[1]
A day later, eight heavily damaged raiders suddenly reappeared. However, rather than entering New Atlanta as victors preparing to strike, the seemingly frantic raiders desperately fled around the city, running at maximum speed towards their landing zone, lifting off with great haste. Intercepted communications between the raiders and their DropShips were largely nonsensical, speaking of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, of four demons in the mountains. The citizens of New Atlanta would take their words to heart, erecting a monument to their four unknown defenders, called the "Four Horsemen of Errai".[1]
The Horsemen's legend did not end there however, with the reappearance of the four Wyverns after a massive earthquake hit New Atlanta in 2840. Triggering a massive series of avalanches from the nearby mountains around the city, hundreds of civilians were trapped when their homes built into the mountainside were buried. As the rescuers desperately attempted to free the trapped families, the Four Horsemen appeared without warning to assist, all four Wyverns battered and beaten from their long battle against the bandit raiders five years earlier. Never communicating, the Horsemen worked around the clock for three days, cutting and clearing rubble until all the surviving civilians were rescued, with only a handful of fatalities. The four Wyverns then disappeared into the mountains once again.[1]
