History[edit]

Formation[edit]

The Fourth Brigade is one of the most active units in the FWLM.[1] As the 3rd Fusiliers of Oriente were formed in 2581 to support the invasion of the Magistracy of Canopus, and as the 4th Brigade also fought in the invasion, it is likely that the 4th Brigade were formed at the same time.[2]

Reunification War[edit]

During the Reunification War, the 4th Fusiliers of Oriente and their sister regiments had become known as brigades, although they still operated at regiment strength; as a result, records of their deeds during the various campaigns of the war record the 4th Fusiliers as the 4th Fusiliers of Oriente Brigade. The 4th Brigade served as a part of the 1st Marik Auxiliary Corps commanded by General Ian Marik in support of the SLDF Task Force Canopus.[3][4][5]

Krimari[edit]

Following the destruction of the bulk of the Magistracy Navy at Thurrock in mid-2583 a buoyant SLDF targeted a number of worlds for conquest, picking up the pace of the Canopian war sharply as they capitalized on the inability of the MAF to redeploy units quickly. The minor Magistracy world of Krimari was one of these targets, notable largely for the presence of one of the elite Chasseurs á Cheval regiments on-world. Captain-General Marion Marik tasked the 59th Brigade with capturing the world and attempting to destroy the defending 4th Canopian Light Horse, and assigned the 3rd and 4th Fusiliers of Oriente Brigades to support the 59th in what would be the first campaign of the war for the 4th Brigade. Although the SLDF forces were unable to pin the 4th Light Horse down, they did force them off-world and quickly occupied Krimari.[5][6][7]

Canopus[edit]

In 2584 the invasion of Canopus IV itself was ordered, and landings began in early April; the defending Magistracy Armed Forces units put up a fierce resistance, and while the 4th Brigade didn't see heavy action in the first days unlike some of the other FWLM regiments involved in the attack, the 4th Brigade did by the end of the month-long campaign. The 4th Brigade fought alongside the other FWLM and SLDF regiments as the Magistracy defenders were pushed back to the capital city of Delphi and finally defeated, although the final day of the battle resembled a meat grinder with forces on both sides taking heavy damage before the MAF lines were broken.[8] The battle for Canopus was the last major battle the 4th Brigade fought during the Reunification War.[5]

Anton's Revolt[edit]

Third Succession War[edit]

The commanding officer was a close ally to Duncan Marik and engaged in a plot against Captain-General Janos Marik. SAFE was placed in command of the unit, and many members were cashiered. The heavy-handed nature of the dismissals angered many innocent parties however and led to dissatisfaction with the League.[1] In 3025, a reinforced battalion of the Fusiliers, led by Colonel Eva Hansi launched an attack on the lyran frontier world of Dixie, after a SAFE agent on planet had learned the discovery, on planet, of an SLDF Castle Brian.[9] But their mission was a disaster: the planetary militia leader, Colonel Fritz Volger, managed to attract the Fusiliers to a wrong location, and despite being his forces outnumbered (the Castle's contents were ruined) after keep harassing them, stopping their advance with trenches and incendiary traps, delaying them until lyran reinforcements arrived. The Fusiliers retreat, but had to leave behind a full company who was forced to surrender.[10][11]

Andurien Secession[edit]

The unit was returned to LCCC command in 3031. When Duncan Marik nominated himself as the new Captain General, Colonel Andrea Graham supported him wholeheartedly. After Duncan's death, a military tribunal found her guilty with six other high-ranking officers to build a conspiracy network against the FWLM. Colonel Graham and her fellow traitors were killed by firing squad. SAFE investigated the unit again, but found nothing treasonous, only some officers who had exercised poor judgement.[1]

They didn't participate in the Andurien Secession fighting, but did spend 3037 on Thurrock.[12]

FedCom Civil War[edit]

The Fourth Brigade was stationed on Oriente in 3067.[13] The unit's reliability rating had improved, and their logistical status was upgraded as well.[14]

Jihad[edit]

Reports published in late March 3079 indicate that the Ohrensen system was subjected to a raid by Word of Blake forces on the 6th of February, one of five worlds within the Duchy of Oriente to be raided in the space of a few weeks by a Blakist task force consisting of units from several divisions with WarShip support. The Blakists used nuclear weapons to destroy the defending Essex-class destroyer FWLS Schrack in the Ohrensen system before making a ground assault which badly damaged the 1st Marik Militia and destroyed the planetary HPG.[15]

The Duchy of Oriente responded to the ongoing attack on Ohrensen by deploying reinforcements from the nearby Kyrkbacken and Suzano systems to the Ohrensen system a week later; these reinforcements included the 4th Fusiliers of Oriente among the ground forces, as well as naval support from the Zechetinu II-class corvettes FWLS Acari and FWLS Kustarachnae. The Blakist task force evidently destroyed the Kustarachnae as it attempted to cover both the Acari and the arriving 4th Fusiliers of Oriente; the Acari was then captured, and later used as a Trojan Horse for a later assault on the Oriente system.[15]

While the result of the battle for Ohrensen on the 4th Fusiliers isn't recorded, it is known that the 4th Fusiliers were destroyed during the Jihad and hadn't been rebuilt by 3081.[16] Given the damage inflicted on the 1st Marik Militia and the effective loss of the Schrack, Acari and Kustarachnae at Ohrensen, it's likely that the 4th Fusiliers were destroyed in the same action.

The Fourth Fusiliers were confirmed destroyed in 3079.[17][18]
