Description[edit]

Ikhwan Stables was a stable founded in 3042; all its warriors are from the Azami worlds of the Draconis Combine.[1]

History[edit]

Ikhwan Stables was born from the survivors of a raid on Ruchbah by the Arkab Legions. After being mauled and forced to retreat in a merchant JumpShip, they were dropped at Westerhand after the JumpShips's Captain conspired against them, not dropping them back to the Combine and stealing their DropShip and capturing their technicians. Since then, the Stable has been trying to earn enough money to return home.[1]

The Stable seized a warehouse near the spaceport soon after their arrival, situated in a way that gives them some measure of security. The building contains the two repair cradles purchased by the Stable (to avoid the heavy Capellan repair fees). It is also large enough to house all the stable's equipment as well as the barracks.[2]

For some months, the native technicians have been lobbying for the Stable to raid a rival facility to get the spare parts they need. If things get any worse, this could end up being necessary.[3]

In May 3042, the Iron Knights mercenary unit arrived on Westerhand to participate in the 'Mech games, hoping to win fame to attract replacement warriors and equipment and at the same time attract a new employer.

During their first week they made enemies of Ikhwan Stables, which ended with two of their MechWarriors in hospital after a bar fight. The Iron Knights executed a raid against the Ikhwan warehouse but were beaten off, but only after killing the Ikhwan stablemaster. And then as a final insult they decided to challenge the stable to a match on Garringer continent in hopes of gaining the fame they wanted.[4]

The Iron Knights won the fight thanks to the full-scale battles they were still used to. They destroyed the six 'Mechs belonging to Ikhwan Stables, but they didn't look much the winners, losing several MechWarriors, their commanding officer among them. Only MechWarrior Rukaya survived, and she was castigated from the stable barely two hours after returning to Victory City.

With only one working 'Mech remaining, the Stable struggled until the end of 3043, when they were finally absorbed by a larger stable. None of the original warriors was ever to return to Algedi.[5]

Stablemasters and Owners[edit]

Notable Personnel[edit]

Instructors[edit]

  • Mullah Robert Gaston was a MechWarrior who fought for the Arkab Legion in the Fourth Succession War and the War of the 3039 before sustaining a feedback injury from his neurohelmet. After that, he transferred to the technical corps and was the only technician to escape the trap and join his comrades. Since then, he has been named senior instructor for the Stables and he is the men behind the "go for the throat" strategy the Gladiators follow.[7]
  • Bennett Kaldari is the second instructor. He has no military experience but is familiar with the games on Westerhand.[8]
  • Li-Soon Quan is the third instructor. He has no military experience but is familiar with the games on Westerhand.[8]

Technicians[edit]

None of the Arkab Legion technicians escaped the trap they were caught in. The Stable has tried to recruit what technical support they could but with little success. This has resulted in having only seven operational 'Mechs at any given time out of the nine the Stable has, and that the Dragon has been missing its left arm for several months.[3]

MechWarriors[edit]

In 3042 14 MechWarriors were fighting for Ikhwan Stables.[1]

Known MechWarriors[edit]

None.

Tactics and Style[edit]

Ikhwan Stables had issues in their first fights as they were not used to arena dueling. Once they grasped the correct tactics, they created their own: they've given a lot of importance to the psychological battle, so they attack early and hard, trying to put their opponents off-balance. They are known to push their 'Mechs to the edge of their endurance and sometimes beyond, believing that it is better to attack than hold the defense.[13]
