J. Marcus Llewelyn-Jaymes was the supervising engineer of the Trooper Prototype BattleMech.

History[edit]

Very little is known about Llewelyn-Jaymes. He was a retired Associate Chief Armorer of the League Central Coordination and Command with the rank of Colonel. Some time around 2469, he was recruited by Toddlette Industries to become their Chief Engineer with the company's interest in designing BattleMechs.

This ultimately would turn out to be a boon for the midsize company and as a result Toddlette jumped to the forefront of the BattleMech arms race. The former Colonel brought with him extensive experience with a background in BattleMech research and development, and also numerous professional and personal contacts within the League's military, government, and private sector.

By the end of 2469, Lleweyln-Jaymes had only been retired from the service for one year, but had quickly formed a handpicked design team and began work on something they knew the FWLM would need: a dedicated reconnaissance BattleMech. Eventually his team unveiled their first prototype, the TP-1R Trooper BattleMech.

Due to his many contacts within the federal military and government circles (and if rumors are to be believed, he may have bribed key politicians and decision makers), the FWLM accepted delivery of the first Troopers in 2475. The design earned a poor reputation shortly after for many reasons, but was not a complete failure since the current Chief Armorer and Quartermaster of the FWLM, at that time, purchased the simple, easy-to-maintain BattleMech year after year. This ultimately paid off with the FWLM selecting the prototype to be updated with modern technology.

Lleweyln-Jaymes' team and Toddlette Industries went on to create a new version that was renamed and known as the FLE-4 Flea which entered production in 2501.[1]
