History[edit]
The Kerensky was a Union-C-class DropShip operated by Clan Nova Cat as part of the Third Aerospace Cluster. Under Star Captain Volls, it took part in the Battle of Luthien during the Clan Invasion.[1]
Though there is no information about destroyed Clan DropShips on record for the battle, circumstantial evidence—namely that the Kerensky did not participate in the contested landings in a subsequent scenario, following an interdiction scenario where it fought against defending aerospace fighters—suggests it was one of the two Clan DropShips to have received crippling damage.[2]
Notes[edit]
- When the Luthien scenario pack was published in 1993, the Clans' Union-C-class was not yet introduced to BattleTech; it was only introduced in Technical Readout: 3057 which was published in 1994, i.e. a year later. An official ruling thus states that Clan Union-class DropShips mentioned in earlier sources including namely the Luthien scenario pack can be assumed to have been Union-C-class instead (see Luthien (scenario pack)#Notes).
That said, it is entirely possible that the Clans captured regular Union-class vessels of Inner Sphere origin during their conquest and deployed such captured vessels in the Battle of Luthien. The Falcon and the Wolf lists Union-C and (regular old-fashioned) Union-class vessels in the toumans of Clans Wolf and Jade Falcon, indicating both types were used by the Clans; the book is written as a report from Wolfnet who, being of Clan descent themselves, would be able to tell the two classes apart.
