LXVIII Corps (or the Sixty-Eighth Corps) was one of the seventy-two Corps that made up the Star League Defense Force. Prior to the collapse of the Star League LXVIII Corps was a fairly large corps consisting of 7 divisions, 9 independent regiments and an independent aero wing.[1]

History[edit]

In 2764 LXVIII Corps was part of the 18th Army assigned to the Outworlds Alliance Territorial State. Garrisoning three of the Outworlds' outer rim provinces, the Corps faced multiple unique challenges. The three provinces were only recently settled, and a lot of the infrastructure found in other older colonies and systems was missing. The Sixty-Eighth Corps' component units provided security for the Department of Mega-Engineering detachments that were terraforming those new systems. The Corps headquarters was established on Baliggora.[2]

When the simmering violence and rebellion building in the Periphery erupted with the New Vandenberg Uprising and subsequent Periphery-wide uprising in 2765 LXVIII Corps were swept up in the violence along with the rest of the 18th Army.[1]

More than a third of LXVIII Corps was lost in the Periphery Uprising, with the 135th and 149th Mechanized Infantry Divisions lost in combat along with the 200th Royal Light Horse Regiment and the 228th Striker Regiment in 2765. The Swamp Fox Division took heavy enough losses in the conflict that by 2766 the division had been disbanded.[1]

Compared to the damage inflicted on LXVIII Corps during the Periphery Uprising, the Hegemony Campaign inflicted relatively light losses with the Black Watch Division and the 205th Light Horse Regiment ultimately being disbanded as a result of heavy casualties but no other units lost. When General Aleksandr Kerensky led the bulk of the SLDF on the Exodus the larger units in LXVIII Corps followed. The Yorii Division, the 157th Royal Mechanized Infantry Division and the bulk of the 147th Mechanized Infantry Division followed Kerensky, although elements of the 147th joined the Capellan Confederation. The 74th Royal Dragoon Regiment was the only independent unit within LXVIII Corps to join the Exodus; the remaining independent units remained behind, with the 199th Light Horse regiment joining the Lyran Commonwealth, the 258th Hussar Regiment joining the Capellan Confederation and both the 361st Dragoon Regiment and the 963rd Independent Aero Wing joining the Draconis Combine.[1]

The fate of two of the independent regiments within LXVIII Corps is currently unknown; both the 89th Dragoon Regiment and the 231st Striker Regiment are known to have survived the Hegemony Campaign, but nothing more is known.[1]
