Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

Settled at some point in the handful of years between the end of the Age of War and the start of the Reunification War,[1][3]Megarez was unknown to the Star League when a Star League Defense Force task force under the command of Captain-General Marion Marik was assigned to conquer the Magistracy of Canopus in 2577. By 2583, the task force had learned of the existence of Megarez, and in March of 2583 the 59th Brigade from VII Corps and the 401st Independent Regiment were assigned to the conquest of Megarez.[4][46]

Megarez was an agrarian world of little strategic importance, but it had been used by the Magistracy Armed Forces to billet units between raids on SLDF garrisons on occupied Magistracy worlds or supply worlds within the Free Worlds League. While no major units were stationed on Megarez when the SLDF troops arrived, it took the SLDF weeks to locate all of the various hidden camps established around Megarez and winkle out the handful of defenders still on the world. Megarez was one of four worlds to fall to the SLDF in March and April 2583, completing the encirclement of Canopus, and would be occupied by the SLDF for the remainder of the war; once the Reunification War ended, a number of Magistracy worlds were annexed by the Free Worlds League, but Megarez remained a part of the Magistracy.[4][5]

Star League[edit]

During the final years of the Star League, Megarez was the host to a Star League Defense Force garrison in the form of the 279th Royal Mechanized Infantry Division. The commander of the 279th, Major General Vladimir Jeong, helped set up his unit as its own little pirate kingdom through criminal enterprises. The world's remote location and Jeong's care to keep his troops from doing any wrongdoing directly, prevented the authorities from making any arrests.[47]

The Jihad[edit]

Following the firebombing of the city of Crimson on Canopus IV the Blakist Forty-first Shadow Division launched a series of attacks on other worlds within the Magistracy of Canopus between 3071[48] and 3073.[49] The Forty-first's rampage hit Bass before moving on to hit Lindenmarle, Megarez, Adherlwin and Borgan's Rift;[48] the Forty-first was then caught and hammered by a joint Canopian-Capellan task force in the Aspropirgos system in Free Worlds League space, ending their rampage.[48][49]
