Planetary History[edit]

Paran was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic and is located near Far Reach and Tordenskjold.[4] Paran VI served as a breadbasket system for the Rim Worlds Republic, covered in island-spanning orchards and massive fisheries. After the Amaris Civil War ended, Paran kept to itself, and banned weaponry in an attempt to keep the peace. The worlds of the system lost contact with each other, and their HPG system collapsed in 2803. This downward slide was arrested in 2819 when elements of the Star League Expeditionary Brigade arrived in the system. They made contact with a small Unfinished Book monastery on Paran VII. The initial contact between Paran VI and VII was hostile. The Paran VI government was distrustful of the SLEB's survivors due to the memory of the Amaris Civil War. It wasn't until the SLEB survivors defended the entire Paran system in 2830 that the two worlds came together. In 2835, they joined to form the Paran Free System.[11]

The Paran Free System quickly became the preferred destination of many oppressed minorities, religious groups, and cults. They are allowed to land on the planets and form their own cities as long as they respect the right of other cults, minorities, and religious groups. Each enclave on the worlds sends a representative to a ruling council to handle planetwide matters. The SLEB's descendants formed the core of the all-volunteer Paranese Civil Defense Compact. This defending force consists of citizens from every enclave and city who volunteer to defend their fellow citizens. They are based on Paran VII. For many years they had the use of the SLS Pioneer,[11] an Avatar-class WarShip,[28] but this ship was eventually lost to maintenance shortfalls. It was last seen in 2875.[11]
