Planetary History[edit]

Age of War[edit]

Settled at some point after the formation of the Capellan Confederation,[2] Ruschegg joined the Free Worlds League at some point prior to the mid twenty-sixth century. When Kossandra Centrella began her campaign to recruit or subvert the allegiance of periphery worlds and disaffected to her own Magistracy Free State and later the Magistracy of Canopus, Ruschegg was one of the worlds she targeted. At some point in the 2550s, Ruschegg and the neighboring worlds of Payvand and Scheuerheck took the Magestrix up on her offer and left the Free Worlds League to join her realm.[3]

The Captain-General at the time, Albert Marik, was too preoccupied by the Third Andurien War and the formation of the Star League to direct any particular attention to three border worlds of relatively little note, and free will was a large part of the culture of the Free Worlds League.[3]

Star League[edit]

Ruschegg would remain a part of the Magistracy until 2578, when the Reunification War came to the Canopian worlds. The commander of the Star League Defense Force task force assigned to conquer the Magistracy was Captain-General Marion Marik; the opening year of the war saw the SLDF capture several worlds within the Magistracy, but ambushes, deceptions and raids by the Magistracy Armed Forces slowed the SLDF campaign and saw the plan for the military campaign change. Marik decided to create a buffer zone between the Magistracy and those worlds acting as staging areas and supply depots for the task force, and selected Ruschegg as one of the worlds to be a part of that buffer zone.[3]

While the greater part of the task force was VII Corps from the SLDF, the Free Worlds League had contributed a number of units as an auxiliary force. Those FWLM units saw the recapture of Ruschegg as an opportunity to recapture lost territory; as a result, when the SLDF Fifty-eighth Brigade and Sixty-second Royal Brigade arrived on Ruschegg between July and December 2578, they were supported by the First and Third Marik Militia as well as the First and Second Brigades of the Fusiliers of Oriente, more than enough to overwhelm the local garrison.[53]

In February 2579 the Captain-General had her flagship, the FWLS Albert Marik orbiting above Scheuerheck, and it was to this ship that she had the leaders of Scheuerheck, Payvand and Ruschegg bought. Each expected a summary execution; instead, Marik entertained them cordially, and offered each world a place back in the Free Worlds League. Marik made it clear that she expected First Lord Ian Cameron to grant the Free Worlds League control of the worlds after the Reunification War whatever happened, but emphasized that if the three leaders chose, they could rejoin the Free Worlds League voluntarily and remain in power. Refusing wouldn't result in punishment or execution for any of them - but it would force her to replace them with military governors. Acting out of self-interest, all three leaders endorsed petitions asking for their worlds to be reincorporated back into the Free Worlds League within weeks.[3][8]

The easy capture and reintegration of Ruschegg along with the other border worlds was used extensively by Marik's allies in the Free Worlds League Parliament to make headway against those who had lobbied against joining the Star League.[3]

Succession Wars[edit]

In 3005, Baron Geric Keeling attempted to hire a lance-sized mercenary unit for anti-pirate activities, but due to unfavorable terms it lingered in the Mercenary Review Board database for over a year.[54]

Geric's successor, Baron Archibald Keeling was once photographed discussing a deal for slaves with Redjack Ryan and Paula Trevaline.[55]

Apocryphal Content Ends

Sometime between 3039 and 3042, Baron Archibald Keeling employed Woodrow Ethan Allen of the Green Mountain Boys, but Allen quit after discovering the Baron's cruel streak, something the Baron swore to repay him for.[56]

Clan Invasion[edit]

Baron Archibald Keeling would offer a similar contract as his predecessor in June 3056, seeking a company-sized unit for a pirate hunt. Unknown by the MRBC who hosted the contract, this contract was a sham. Baron Keeling was seeking to intimidate the neighboring worlds of Saonara, Obrenovac, and Eleusis into forming a duchy with Ruschegg at the head. His plan was for the mercenary's to raid "pirate bases," in truth rural areas of those planets in order to coerce their leaders to join with him for mutual protection. Despite his scheming reputation that has left Baron Keeling untrusted elsewhere, on Ruschegg his subjects love him as they've grown wealthy under his rule.[57][56]

Dark Age[edit]

Ruschegg became an independent planet upon the Free Worlds League's dissolution in 3079 and remained so until 3148 when it and neighboring worlds chose to join the Magistracy of Canopus.[46][51]

In March 3145, the Fourth Andurien Cavalry staged a reconnaissance raid that ended with more than fifty percent losses for the Andurien forces.[58][59][60]
