History

The Star Stuff was a deep-space exploratory vessel with a crew formed by planetologists and xenobiologists from the University of Alpheratz and in charge of captain Commager. The explorers transmitted their data files back to a listening station on Dneiper, until they had gone several light-years beyond the most distant charted planet spinward of the Outworlds Alliance.

On the 13 May 3051 they detected an unknown vessel passing near them. Their sensors were unable to match its profile to any known JumpShip. They followed it towards a planetary system with three gas giants and at least two other worlds that might be habitable. After some investigation, they detected that of the two habitable planets, one was a marginaly habitable world, while on the second they picked traces of sparse habitation.

After sending a ship down, in their last message they confirmed they had found one of those Long-Lost Colonies. Their ancestors had made planetfall around 470 years earlier while fleeing the Outworlds Alliance ahead of the advancing SLDF during the Reunification War. They had kept their JumpShip functioning all this time to run periodic checks to ensure the SLDF was not coming against them.

The crew never transmitted to the listening post the coordinates of the planet, and the scientist were asked to stay within one of the twenty small towns scattered across the temperate zone.

As nothing else was known from this JumpShip, it can be assumed it was either destroyed while returning or decided to stay in the lost colony.
