Armed Forces of the Federated Suns

In the AFFS, a recently-graduated military academy Cadet is given the rank of Subaltern. If they successfully complete their duties for six months they are promoted to Leftenant.

Prior to the formation of the Federated Commonwealth, Subalterns wore a plain white epaulette as their rank insignia. After the FedCom Civil War, the AFFS changed the Subaltern's insignia to a plain green epaulette trimmed in their branch color.
