Flamer lower user heat?[edit]

Is there any truth to the idea that's going on that a mech using a flamer should have it's heat lowered as it is losing some of it's hot reactor plasma? Also does anyone know where this idea is from? Mby some BT article or some off branch game? -- 19:32, 16 February 2016 (PST)

There is no such rule. And imho, the idea doesn't make any sense. Vehicular flamers work like real-world flamers in that they use flammable liquid, and the Firestarter's flamers are fluffed to work likewise. Other, more common 'Mech flamers are fluffed to draw upon plasma from the fusion reactor - implicitly, a relatively tiny amount that doesn't shutdown the reactor. To wit, these flamers don't magically drain excess heat from the 'Mech. That's what heat sinks are for. Different thing entirely. Frabby (talk) 01:07, 17 February 2016 (PST)
The closest thing I can think of to this are the rules for coolant guns/trucks, but in those cases, it's the target having its heat reduced, not the user. Given that the fusion reactor inside a 'Mech is quite literally a sustained nuclear fusion reaction with a temperature measured in thousands of Kelvin, it's hard to see how venting plasma could reduce the temperature of the reaction by any noticeable degree short of completely venting the reactor - at which point the 'Mech would shut down completely. Although I suspect Cray could explain reasons why this wouldn't work far more succinctly and accurately than either of us! BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:00, 17 February 2016 (PST)
