I put a line of speculation in the article. Feel free to debate its merit here. ClanWolverine101 18:27, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

This unit is definitely problematic, the issue is what information is erroneous. With only three sources known to us and none of them particularly indepth all that we can definitely say is that there are a number of disagreements with other canon sources. For instance maybe it was intended that they be formed by a different Duke Kelswa (We don't seem to have anything on the first or second Selvin Kelswa or for most of the 600+ years of the ruling line for that matter). It does seem likely that the Jagers didn't make it past the Third Succession War intact (or at least, under their original name) since all three sources are set in or immediately around the Third War and so far no one seems to have come up with a post 3028 source mentioning them. Agreed. That's why I offered the solution that I did: That the Jagers were primarily conventional units with some battlemech assets. This would explain why they don't appear on the original House Steiner Sourcebook roster. It could be assumed that the units were later renamed, perhaps becoming part of the Kelswa Guard (destroyed during the Clan Invasion). Obviously, that's more speculation. Nevertheless, I had three sources that claimed they existed. So I felt obliged to put this up. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 11:17, 24 February 2013 (PST)
Exactly why I added more of the (very limited) information that Camo Specs offered since it is the only one of the three I had immediately available. I don't have a print copy of the referenced TRO on hand and I have never even laid eyes on the SW board game. It seems like there should be some small thing somewhere that would clear this up but it is just as likely that it 'fell through a crack' and got forgotten about (plenty of more established units have gotten left out of major conflicts or ignored for long periods). I just managed to track down a scan of the old board game rulebook and found the LCAF OOB which mentions the Tamar Jagers. It does not clarify any thing other than the Jagers not existing in the game's 2786 OOB but does suggest that the Jagers were formed late in the Third war since the 3025 OOB for house Steiner lists them as "Not Initially Available" (along with the Donegal Regulars, Hesperus Guards, York Regulars, Odessa Regulars and Sakhalin Regulars) although this may be due to game mechanics instead of background. That they weren't available at the start of the Succession Wars is consistent with other sources. However, I would hesitate to use SW as a reference. I only put it in there as evidence that they existed. :) ClanWolverine101 (talk) 13:36, 24 February 2013 (PST)
It is absolutely terrible as a source for anything that couldn't be found in any other summary of the Succession Wars era, I am just grasping for anything that might provide more information or offer us some insight into how we can resolve the disparities between established canon and the sources that we have right now. Honestly, a lot of the books from the early years have issues like this but I do want to try to find some way of resolving some of these issues, particularly for topics which didn't get covered in later works.
