The Vulture's Nest system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as of 2822 was located in the Coventry Province of the Protectorate of Donegal within the Lyran Commonwealth.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

The Vulture's Nest system is located near the Ambrose and Awyron systems.[3][4]

System History[edit]

The Vulture's Nest system was settled at some point during or prior to the Age of War and by the end of the Age of War was a part of the Apollo Province of the Rim Worlds Republic.[5][3] Vulture's Nest vanished from maps during the Second Succession War,[1][2][6] indicating that the system had been abandoned, depopulated, or rendered too insignificant to merit further recording on maps.

Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

Civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic in 2575, with the factions polarized around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[35]

The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. The first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[36] until a destructive raid on Alarion by the Fourth Amaris Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[37]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584.[38]

General Nathan Isaacson assigned the IV Corps' Eleventh Royal Division to the conquest of Vulture's Nest in 2596, the only major combat operation that year other than the campaign for Apollo itself. The Star League forces successfully took control of Vulture's Nest, defeating the local militia forces, and remained in place until the end of combat operations later that year.[39]

Anti-Amaris Bombing[edit]

Around 2655 (see Notes), the Third Amaris Legionnaires' Alpha Battalion was on Vulture's Nest performing feats of marksmanship for recruitment purposes when a bomb detonated in the gathered crowd, followed immediately by an attack by armored elements later traced back to anti-Amaris rebels left over from the Reunification War. Under fire and enraged by the civilian deaths, the Legionnaire 'Mechs quickly formed rank and engaged the enemy. Even as they fought inside the heavily populated capital city, the Third's extraordinary marksmanship and accuracy minimized further civilian casualties, with their battlecam footage showcasing their professionalism all across the Republic for decades.[40]

Succession Wars[edit]

Vulture's Nest was conquered by the Lyran Commonwealth during the 2773-2775 Republic-Commonwealth War[13] and vanished from maps during the Second Succession War.[13][1][2][6]
