The Thirteenth Fleet was a part of the Star League Defense Force Naval Command.[1]
History
Unlike most SLDF Fleets which were stationed in one particular region, the Thirteenth was a "troubleshooter" fleet that would travel to the various hotspots around the League. The squadrons of the fleet operated independently of Fleet command, simply arriving where they were needed. They lacked an official home port but rotated to New Earth for , but the individual squadrons would simply arrive at the nearest SLDF fleet base and draw upon those resources. The Quartermaster Corps sent additional supplies to every SLDF base to support the independent squadrons. When a new WarShip was assigned to the Thirteenth Fleet, the appropriate squadron would simply travel to the shipyard and have the WarShip join.[2]
Prior to the Periphery Uprising the Thirteenth Fleet operated from a number of bases dotted throughout the Free Worlds League and Lyran Commonwealth. The first of the SLDF's Fleets to lack responsibilities for a fixed region, the Thirteenth's mission was to suppress bandit activity, a task the Thirteenth had been assigned during the reign of First Lord Simon Cameron and which the Thirteenth would continue to perform up until the fleet was deployed to the Magistracy of Canopus after the Uprising began.[1]
Officers
In 2765 the Thirteenth Fleet was commanded by Admiral Oliver Finch from the WarShip SLS Black Rock.[1] Given the nature of the Fleet's assignments however, each Vice Admiral in charge of a squadron operated as the commander.[2]
