The 188th Royal Independent Aero Wing was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army. It was one of the SLDF's Royal units, which consisted of troops from the Terran Hegemony.[1]
History
In 2764, the unit was assigned, as a part of the XXVII Corps, Eleventh Army, to District 1 of the Lyran Commonwealth Military Region and then transferred to District 3 by 2765.[1] One of a number of independent regiments within XXVII Corps at the time, the 188th worked well with the 958th Artillery Regiment, as the combination of aerospace power and artillery allowed the various divisions within XXVII Corps to quickly augment their organic firepower and limit the mobility of their opponents. The independent regiments of XXVII Corps were also somewhat notorious as a result of the Eleventh Royal Heavy Assault Regiment accidentally blundering into an early warning system located in an uninhabited system on the border of the Terran Hegemony, triggering alarms and alerts, as a result of a poorly-filed transport plan.[2]
