History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

Like the other regiments of the Stewart Dragoons the First Tania Dragoons was notionally a provincial unit during the Star League era[1] - all of the forces associated with provinces officially became provincial forces, distinct from federal forces, in what was at least partly an act of fiction to avoid disbanding a large number of regiments under the demands of the Star League Council Edict of 2650[2] - but the First's loyalty remained firmly with the federal government and the Captain-General. In addition to defending the Stewart Commonwealth the First and its sister regiments could also be called on to defend the Free Worlds League border with the Lyran Commonwealth, and although the Dragoons didn't participate in the Marik Civil War, they remained loyal to Elise Marik and would have mobilized at her command if needed.[1]

The First and Second Tania Dragoons were associated with the worlds of Tania Australis and Tania Borealis, and by 2765 both had occupied their relatively quiet garrison posts without deploying elsewhere for more than a century. The First had effectively become little more than a planetary militia, albeit a well-funded and well-equipped militia, and was content to simply conduct pirate-hunting operations - an activity both the First and Second were rather adept at.[1]
