History

Second Succession War

In 2841 the Twenty-first Rim Worlds dropped on Northwind to support the Davion Assault Guards and 33rd Avalon Hussars. During this fight the Twenty-first engaged the 3rd Kearny Highlanders and forced them out of their positions in Cromarty City. As the Third Kearny attempted to link up with Stuart's Highlanders, they were effectively destroyed by the Twenty-first and the AFFS units, leaving only a company of the Third Highlanders to join Stuart's Highlanders. Eventually the three AFFS units destroyed Stuart's Highlanders as well.[1]

Fourth Succession War

The Twenty-first Rim Worlds Regiment was on Liao during Operation RAT. There they fought the 1st Confederation Reserve Cavalry, Warrior House LuSann, Vincent's Commandos, and the Prefectorate Guard. During the fight at Dreyman Pass, General Mona Troy was killed fighting elements of the First CRC and Prefectorate Guard.[2]

War of 3039

Clan Invasion

The Twenty-first Rim Worlds regiment faced Clan Jade Falcon on Fort Loudon in 3054.[3] The Falcons began their assault on Fort Loudon by capturing the Twenty-first's JumpShips, prevent the regiment's escape.[4] The fight didn't go well for the Twenty-first; they were reduced to thirty-two MechWarriors.[3] Only two companies' worth of survivors escaped into the mountains. The Falcons did not occupy Fort Loudon, and instead withdrew to Quarrel having proven themselves in battle against a unit with SLDF origins.[4] The Irregulars' other units then launched a retaliatory strike against Quarrel, resulting in heavy casualties.[4] However, because the Irregulars had won a Trial of Possession against the Jade Falcons, all 21st Rim Worlds personnel taken as bondsmen were freed and allowed to return to FedCom space with the Irregulars.[4]

Nevertheless they considered the number of the survivors as a good omen because the Blue Star Irregulars were formed by thirty-two Blue Star Medal holders.[5] The survivors of the Avatars of Painful Death were folded into the Twenty-first Rim Worlds: the Avatar MechWarriors were transferred into the Twenty-first's second battalion (which was renamed the Avatars of Painful Death), the Avatars' aerospace assets were reorganized into the Neutron Blues wing, and the two surviving companies of the 2nd Avatars Infantry were attached to the Twenty-first.[5] Further the 1894th Light Horse Regiment detached a battalion from its armor regiment to help rebuild Twenty-first's armor force.[5] The Twenty-first quickly rebuilt by recruiting Dispossessed MechWarriors to fill their ranks.[5][3] The Irregulars also used most of their reserve funds and borrowed heavily from the Federated Commonwealth to equip the rebuilt Twenty-first.[6]

FedCom Civil War

The Twenty-first fought the 11th Arcturan Guards on Tharkad. They again sustained heavy losses with only a company of Mechs and a battalion of warriors surviving. The unit rebuilt by evaluating mercenaries who formed part of the Kell Hounds "farm team" system and offering some of them positions. The new Archon, Peter Steiner-Davion, also redirected output from factories on Inarcs and Coventry to the rebuilding unit. The Twenty-First remained on station along the Clan Jade Falcon border, hoping to recover a MechWarrior who possessed a Blue Star Medal taken as a Clan bondsman.[3]

Notes

In Field Manual: Updates, it is stated that Colonel Rega Jikelium is the commander of the 1894th Light Horse on 1 October 3067.[15] However, Field Manual: Mercenaries, Revised states that Colonel Hank Hatfield-McCoy assumed command after the battlefield losses.[3] As Field Manual: Mercenaries, Revised was printed after Field Manual: Updates, its reference takes precedence.
