History
The Avalon Hussars were initially founded as a brigade of approximately eight regiments around the time of the founding of the Federated Suns in 2317. The Third Avalon Hussars were the first unit in the Avalon Hussars brigade to be destroyed in action, lost at some point during the 2360s. Some of the unit survived, and went on to form a part of the Ninth Avalon Hussars, where they helped the new regiment build a fearsome reputation.[1]
Officers
One of the officers from the Third, Lieutenant Colonel Jessica Dewitt, was the first person to be awarded the Medal Excalibur, the highest military honor to be awarded by the Federated Suns. During an attack on Robinson by the Draconis Combine, Dewitt and a small force of volunteers held back the advancing Kuritan forces while the people of Robinson conducted an orderly evacuation.[2]
