History

The 3rd Ceti Hussars RCT were part of the Ceti Hussars brigade, formed with the purpose of conducting short raids.[citation needed]

Formation

Like the other Ceti Hussars units, the Third Ceti Hussars were formed from SLDF troops who preferred to remain in the Inner Sphere. The Third was originally formed from members of the SLDF's 199th Dragoon Regiment, 396th Dragoon Regiment, and 250th BattleMech Division.[1]

As of 3025, the 3rd Hussars were based on Immenstadt in the Capellan March.[2]

The Third Ceti Hussars raided Weisau at some point in the Third Succession War.[3]

Fourth Succession War

The Third Ceti Hussars were one of the many regiments to participate in Operation THOR in August 3027, a large-scale military exercise conducted in the Lyran Commonwealth both as a genuine training exercise and as part of clandestine preparations for the impending Fourth Succession War. The Third were defeated on Thorin by the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces Second Royal Guards, a defeat that was considered a high point for the LCAF.[4] When the Fourth Succession War began in earnest in 3028 the Third Ceti Hussars - like many AFFS and LCAF units - were still in place on a world assigned to them during the training exercises, rather than their homeworld; while the Third's homeworld was Immenstadt, they had remained in place on Manapire, waiting for the war to begin. The Third weren't active participants in the first four waves of the war, however, nor did they participate in Operation AMBUSH.[5]

War of 3039

Civil War

As of 3062, the homeworld of the 3rd Ceti Hussars RCT was Manapire. During the FedCom Civil War the Third Hussars didn't participate in Operation: Sovereign Justice. In fact they remained out of the Civil War fighting completely. This put them in the perfect place to defend the Capellan March when it was attacked by Taurian Concordat forces. Leading a task force that consisted of themselves and the Lexington Combat Group, the Third Ceti Hussars destroyed the Red Chasseurs and 2nd Taurian Lancers on Bromhead. They then went on to Midale and forced the Concordat Commandos to retreat. On Lindsay they destroyed the Pleiades Lancers, and then relocated to Brockway where they smashed the Hyades Light Infantry.[7] After that the Third continued to hold Brockway for the Federated Suns.[8]

Jihad

The Third was stationed on Taygeta when the CCAF's Operation THUNDERSTRIKE landed there in 3069. Consisting of the 1st St. Ives Lancers, 2nd St. Ives Lancers, and the 3rd McCarron's Armored Cavalry regiments, Task Force Light Horse (as the Capellan formation was known) inflicted heavy losses on the Hussars. The Hussars withdrew to New Syrtis, where they hoped to rebuild. However the CCAF sent their two other Task Forces to that system, and the Third was effectively destroyed.[9] The survivors were routed to New Hessen to reinforce the Second Ceti Hussars, with the promise that the Third would be rebuilt.[10]

The Third Ceti Hussars were re-established in orbit around Althea's Choice. As part of Operation MATADOR they fought alongside the 2nd Ceti Hussars and destroyed the Red Chasseurs Second Battalion.[11] This fighting was bitter, and the Third took heavy losses. Only the fact that most of the survivors were combat veterans saved it from being disbanded again.[12] In 3085 the Third Ceti served as the garrison for Amber Grove.[13]

Officers

As of 3025, the commanding officer was Marshal Joseph Goff. [2]

As of 3050 to 3062, the commanding officer was Hauptmann General Kellie Lee-Merrow, she becomes later a General.[14][15] [1] She was still in command in 3067.[8]

As of 3085 the commanding officer is Major General Edward James Miemi.[13]

Tactics

The entire RCT breaks into smaller subunits at battalion level and above with the goal to give an enemy too many targets and overwhelm him with sheer numbers.[1]
