3rd Dieron Regulars

History
Formation
The 3rd Dieron Regulars were formed at some point prior to 2581.[1]
Reunification War
The 3rd Dieron Regulars were active during the Reunification War, acting as one of several DCMS BattleMech regiments assigned to an ad-hoc corps in support of the Star League Defense Force task force responsible for invading the Outworlds Alliance. This invasion, named Operation UNION HOLD, saw the 3rd Dieron Regulars tasked with occupying several Alliance worlds as garrison forces and pacifying any resistance on these worlds, replacing Star League Defense Force garrisons.[1]
Responsible for providing a garrison for the world of Bad News and support for various regiments of the Galedon Regulars attacking Kazanka, Nexus Ri and Zlatousi, the 3rd Dieron Regulars garrison on Bad News would be subject to a heavy attack from the 2nd Pitcairn Legion in 2583. The 3rd Dieron Regulars forces on Bad News at the time consisted of a single battalion of BattleMechs, supported by two regiments of infantry and two more of armor, whereas the 2nd Pitcairn Legion was a full BattleMech regiment; the Pitcairn Legion spent three weeks attacking the 3rd Dieron Regulars and their supporting forces, almost destroying the complete battalion. Despite this, the 3rd Dieron Regulars were able to hold Bad News for the Combine.[2][3]
First Succession War
Just prior to the war the unit was stationed on Junction.[4]
Third Succession War
In late 3021 the Third suffered severe casualties assisting in the defense of the Kurita world of Dromini VI against large scale operations by the Wolf's Dragoons mercenary unit's Epsilon Regiment in the employ of House Steiner[5].
Fourth Succession War
During the 4th Succession War, the Third Dieron raided the world of Lyons. On orders to wipe out the settlement of New Freedom. [6] On May, 5th, 3029 the regiment attacked the city, and over the course of two days slaughtered the population. On the 17th, the Kell Hounds mercenary unit arrived and conducted a sneak attack against the Regulars. The Kell Hounds' 1st Battalion overran the Third's Command HQ, killing the regiment's commander. After realizing that the unit was cut off from its DropShips, the 3rd in command Tai-sa Hiro Akuto surrendered. [7]

Clan Invasion
At the start of 3050, the Third was stationed on Konstance[8] Early in the Clan Invasion, the DCMS moved many regiments from their garrison positions to the Clan front, thus leaving many important worlds without protection. The Third were split in two, 1st and 2nd Battalions moving to guard Dieron while the 3rd Battalion guards the world Altair. [9]
Operation Bulldog
The Third maintained its positions on Dieron and Altair, these worlds being too strategically important to the Combine to leave unguarded, and no other units being available to take the position.
Dominion War
The command was tasked with the important defense of Dieron and Altair. Both are planets with important military value. As neither world was attacked, they saw no combat.
Federated Suns Incursion
After the redeployement of the Eridani Light Horse command to Dieron, the Third could share the burden to defend this planet with another unit.
Jihad
The Third Dieron Regulars were on Dieron when the Word of Blake launched an invasion of the system on the 4th of February 3068.[10] After destroying the Dragon's Roost via orbital bombardment[11] and launching several attacks against the Third at various remove mining sites that were largely unsuccessful,[12] the Blakists initially concentrated on destroying the Eridani Light Horse at Fort Winston, a part of the Fortress Dieron complex built into Mount Shanyu. The Blakists used multiple tactical nuclear strikes delivered by DropShips against Fortress Dieron to target the Horsemen,[13] although incidental casualties included the city of Aldinga, a major industrial site, which was destroyed when shelling from one Blakist WarShip intended for Fortress Dieron struck a nearby faultline that carved in the entire valley that the city had been nestled in, deep in the heart of Mataeo.[14] Whilst the Eridani Light Horse fought until the surviving Horsemen had been captured, the Blakists subsequently turned those same DropShips on the Third, obliterating much of the regiment.[13]
Hohiro Kurita, the son of the Coordinator, led a task force to try and liberate Dieron on the 16th of April 3068, but was captured in mid-June and initially reported as being missing, presumed dead.[10] The Tenth Ghost had managed to sneak onto Dieron in March, and managed to fortify near Deber City and secure the Iznakki Spaceport, but were eventually ordered to retreat by the Dieron High Command after a furious and intense battle with the mercenary unit Burr's Black Cobras that raged over twenty-six days and claimed the lives of many in both units, including Colonel Richard Burr and Tai-sa Samuel Noda of the Tenth Ghost.[13][15]
Despite two months of hideous losses at the hands of the invading Blakists, the Third attempted to continue to fight, but almost all of the regiment's fixed positions has been destroyed or overwhelmed by March 3069. The attack made by the Tenth Ghost managed to buy the Third a little time, but the bulk of the survivors surrendered after the unit headquarters was overrun by Blakist forces in the Chiloe. Although some survivors scattered, a number were captured by the Blakists and interned in prison camps.[15] The last elements of the Third attempted to survive by raiding ancient SLDF depots in locations like the Atacama Desert, looking to rearm and repair with whatever they could find[16] and hoping to establish a string of firebases, emboldened by Hohiro Kurita's successful escape[17][18] in January 3069[18] with the surviving elements of the Ghosts of the Black Watch.[19] Although the survivors managed to successfully locate a couple of former depots using old survey logs, they found little to help them; when the last ranking officer in the Third[16] - Tai-sa Hyogo[17] - surrendered to Blakist forces at Tibet City[17][16] in 3071[17], the Third effectively ceased to exist.[16]
Following the destruction of the Third, some of the few survivors went on to band together with remnants of other destroyed DCMS commands such as the Ryuken-go and the 16th Legion of Vega to form the mercenary unit known as the Kouki no Otakebi.[20]
Dark Age Era
Reformed when the Dieron Military District was officially reborn in 3135. The Third has been part of the push into Federated Suns, experiencing hard combat. Currently posted in Errai, giving it a chance to recover after it had lost a little less then half it's strength due to a loss of a Jumpship simply disappearing. [21]
