History
First Succession War
The Third Lyran Regulars were reactivated in 2782; the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces recruited the 567th Striker Regiment, a former Star League Defense Force regiment from the Second Army in 2782 and rebadged them as the Third.[1]
Succession Wars
The Third Lyran Regulars spent most of their existence fighting the Draconis Combine. They were seen as a "hot-tempered" unit, fighting the Combine with every weapon available. The Fourth Succession War and War of 3039 provided several chances for the Third to face their traditional foes.[2]
Fourth Succession War
The planet Harvest was a major agricultural world for the Rasalhague Military District, which made it a key early target for the Lyran Commonwealth during the Fourth Succession War, and it was one of the first worlds attacked in the opening wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. The Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces task force consisted of three BattleMech regiments - the First and a sister unit, the Third Lyran Regulars, along with the the Fourth Donegal Guards, supported by forty assorted regiments of infantry and armor.[3]
The garrison on Harvest when the LCAF invasion force arrived in August 3028 consisted of twenty assorted regiments of armor and infantry and two mercenary 'Mech regiments, the Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group and Helmut's Hermits. The Lyran forces dropped on the Ohio continent en masse and made immediate and effective use of the new Lightning Companies created as a result of the cross-training and co-operation between the LCAF and the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in the years before the invasion. In two key battles - one the Battle of Dangalobee Fields Where the First Lyran Regulars RCT fought the Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group, and the other the Battle for Pusou Hill where the Fourth Donegal Guards RCT and elements of both Lyran Regulars RCTs fought against the Hermits - the Lightning Companies exploited weaknesses in the enemy line to break through and wreak havoc in the DCMS rear areas, catching their opponents by complete surprise.[3]
Late Succession Wars Period
In 3040 the Third raided Sinope in the livery of the Avellar Guards. Unfortunately the Guards were participating in a diplomatic function along with ambassadors from the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine. The raid led to the High Command dismissing the Regular's commander and executive officer and reprimanding most of the others.[2] After the unauthorized raid, the unit was reassigned to Pitkin.[4]
The Clan Invasion saw the Third reassigned to the Lyran Commonwealth but spent their time along the Clan Wolf invasion corridor acting as a clean-up and support force for other units. In 3056 they were reassigned back to Pitkin in the Draconis March.[2]
FedCom Civil War
Falling for a political gambit of Tancred Sandoval, Katherine Steiner-Davion ordered them in 3063 to seize Woodbine.[5] They detained all aristocrats and politicians. Later that year, they were beaten by Tancred Sandoval's task force.[6] Though they were unsuccessful and had been repatriated to the Lyran Alliance, a lack of transport assets kept them on Woodbine when the FedCom Civil War ended.[7]
Jihad
The 3rd Lyran Regulars were effectively destroying during the Word of Blake attacked Woodbine; mustering a total strength of just two combined arms companies, there was no way the 3rd could resist the Blakists for long.[8]
The 3rd Lyran Regulars were rebuilt by the LCAF in the aftermath of the Jihad, and in 3085 were stationed on the interior world of Richvale. The 3rd was reconstituted using elements of the 8th Lyran Regulars, and in a somewhat unusual move Leutnant-General Cynthia Nelson, CO of the 8th, transferred to become the commanding officer of the newly-formed 3rd. This led to speculation that General Nelson had transferred for dubious reasons, possibly involving either foreknowledge of the 8th's imminent posting to Inarcs or attempt to extort money from Quikscell.[9]
Dark Age
In May 3137, they were deployed as part of Operation Hammerfall, the Lyran invasion of fragmented Free Worlds League. The command was lead during the campaign by General Bernard Nordhoff as part "Anvil" task force. They fought hard battles against the resurrected Silver Hawk Irregulars on various worlds in Marik-Stewart Commonwealth from May to October. Later deploying against strong militia units in Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey November and December. On 14th, 1st & 2nd battalions help end conflict in the Duchy with assistance of Roderick Steiner and his remains of his Broken Swords Battalion fighting against the 1st Tamarind Regulars on Tamarind.[citation needed]
The Third Lyran Regulars faced the First Tamarind Regulars four times between 3135 and 3145.[10]

As of 3025 the commanding officer was Hauptmann-Kommandant Jeffreys Saracen, he later promoted to an Colonel.[11][12]
As of 3050 the commanding officer was Leftenant-General Bannion Gessern.[4]
As of 3062 the commanding officer was Leftenant-General Jessica Carson.[2]

Notes
The commanding officer of the 3rd Lyran Regulars is incorrectly given as Leutnant-General Paul Zardetto in Field Manual: 3085; it was confirmed in the official errata thread that the correct CO is Leutnant-General Cynthia Nelson, as Paul Zardetto is listed twice within the LCAF deployment table.[19]
