History

Clan Goliath Scorpion

The Third Scorpion Cuirassiers are permanently stationed inside the Temple of the Nine Muses on Roche.[1][2] They are known for their frenzied defense of Roche. Warriors assigned to this Cluster are also trained in physical attacks, which is unusual in Clan toumans.[1]

Warriors who attempted to join the unit were forced to recite a passage of Goliath Scorpion Remembrance from memory. This passage was chosen by Loremaster Moreau at random.[3]

In 2834 the Third joined forces with the 11th Wolf Guards to face the First Spinner Cluster of Clan Widowmaker on Roche.[4] The Wolf Guards were pinned down in a valley, and may have been destroyed altogether but Loremaster Moreau led his troops into combat with the Widowmakers and helped the Wolves destroy the Widowmakers.[5]

The Wars of Reaving

In March of 3073 the Curassiers along with Gamma Galaxy landed on Foster in an attempt to relieve the siege of the Scorpion enclave of Pillar Prime. An initial charge overwhelmed the Coyote positions although it left the Sixteenth Scorpion Dragoons exposed to air attack taking severe casualties. The Third Cuirassiers fought off the Coyote air units while the rest of the Galaxy pursued the retreating ground forces. Close quarter fighting broke out but Coyote reinforcements slowly whittled down Gamma until it found itself overwhelmed. Loremaster Kyrie Ben-Shimon was killed and the Galaxy was forced to retreat off planet with terrible loss. The Curassiers were the last to leave and dock with their JumpShips. [6]

They were ordered back to Foster in June 3073 with the remnant of the Gamma Galaxy together with Beta Galaxy and the bulk of the Clan's fleet, however they found it empty except for Clan Steel Viper. A Trial of Possession was launched for two of the Viper holdings and the Scorpions granted Safcon. The trials were fought honorably, but the killing of the Viper's commanding officer sparked all out fighting with no quarter given. The Third Cuirassiers supported the First Cateran Cluster in the assault on Firebase Nu. The battle ended when the Scorpions called in orbital bombardment against the Viper positions.[6] In the aftermath the Curassiers were assigned to Beta Galaxy with the survivors of Gamma Galaxy. [7]

Under the command of saKhan Myers the Third Cuirassiers along with the rest of Beta galaxy moved to Glory in September 3073. Here they found their allies Kindraa Mattilla-Carrol under heavy attack from Steel Viper forces. As the Clusters from Beta landed near the city of Portage, fighters from the 3rd Scorpion Cuirassiers bombed the Viper positions allowing the 10th Scorpion Dragoons to sweep in behind the Viper's 93rd Assault Cluster and crush them against the Mandrill forces.[7] A dispute broke out between the allied Clan forces, but as they were settling their differences in a Trial of Refusal the Vipers counter-attacked. The Scorpions were caught off guard but managed to rally in defence of the wounded saKhan. Orbital bombardment from the Atropos allowed the Galaxy to pull off planet.[8]

In 3081 the Third Cuirassiers landed on Valencia as the Scorpions fled their Abjuration. The planetary defenders, the Fourth Brigada, surrendered as the first Scorpion Star landed.[9]
