Description

Formed mostly from raw and impressionable recruits, the addition of experienced and highly independent Marshigama's Legionnaires warriors into the decimated regiment in 3085 had repercussions far beyond what the Strategios could imagine. While the addition of hardened veterans had made the Fourth Capellan Defense Force into one of the best combat regiments in the CCAF, it has also made them imitate the former Legionnaires in other ways. Janshi of the unit have taken to modifying their uniforms however they please while their equipment is festooned with personal graffiti and nose-art.[1] The Strategios had tried for decades to lessen The Miscreants drinking, fighting, loud music and destruction of property to no avail. The Capellan High Command finally settled for basic military protocols and giving attack orders for the unruly regiment to follow.[2]

They are a second-line regiment of the Capella Commonality.[3]

History

Formation

Finding both the First and Second Capellan Defense Force at peak strength in 3079 with an abundance of extra equipment on Capella, the Strategios decided to vastly expand the brigade by adding three new regiments. The 4th Capellan Defense Force was formed from one battalion of the 2nd CDF and two battalions of raw recruits. The unit was assembled quickly in 3081.[1]

Jihad

-3081- mid-3082 - Immediately deployed upon formation to support Operation GOLDEN FORTRESS, the 4th Capellan Defense Force was divided into battalions and used to garrison worlds taken by other CCAF regiments. No significant combat occurred during this period.[1]

- mid-3082 - The Republic Armed Forces counteroffensive called Operation VINDOLANDA found the 1st Battalion of the 4th CDF and Devon's Armored Infantry defending Capolla against the Second and Eighth Republic Auxiliaries. While the inexperienced 1st Battalion fell apart under the pressure of combat[1], the Armored Infantry decimated both Republic Auxiliaries before retreating off-planet.[4]

- late-3082 - Woodstock was garrisoned by the 3rd Battalion of the 4th CDF and Marshigama's Legionnaires. The Legionnaires took a liking to the eager CDF battalion and spent the past months mentoring the fresh unit. These teachings paid off when three Republic Auxiliaries regiments invaded. Both units held off four times their number in brutal urban battles for several weeks before finally leaving the planet.[1]

- late-3084 - The Third Principes Guards landed on Ningpo and fought against the 2nd Battalion of the 4th CDF. The outnumbered Capellan Defense Force Battalion was swept aside and lost not only the planet but their Commanding Officer as well.[1]

-3085 - Sang-shao Elton Sneed was given command of the 4th Capellan Defense Force. Thirteen surviving members of Marshigama’s Legionnaires were transferred into the Fourth two weeks later after being granted citizenship for the unit’s actions against the Republic. By July, the influence of the new arrivals became severe enough to be noticed by the Strategios.[1] The regiment was rebuilding on Homestead by October.[5]

Dark Age

Sometime before this period, Sang-shao Sneed was given a medical discharge for chronic ulcers. More liberated officers took charge over the years until it was Sang-shao Ashton "Thrash" McGar's turn[6]

-3141 - The Fourth raided the Duchy of Oriente and engaged the 8th Orloff Grenadiers. The Grenadiers were so badly damaged the LCCC considered disbanding them.[7]

Officers

In 3085 the commanding officer is Sang-shao Elton Sneed.[5]

In 3145 the commanding officer was Sang-shao Ashton "Thrash" McGar.[8]

Tactics

A highly aggressive unit, the 4th CDC favors offensive operations.[2]

Unit Emblem

The official logo is an upraised jian sword that only the commander’s ’Mech displays. The rest bear an image of a viper’s head wearing a nose-ring, often with other crude embellishments.[1]
