Third Succession War
In 3007 the regiments of McCarron's Armored Cavalry raided New Valencia, baseworld of Wolf's Dragoons. Though they seized several small communities, the Dragoons were able to hold off the Armored Cavalry units long enough for the Eridani Light Horse regiments to arrive. The MAC regiments didn't inflict any damage to the Dragoons, but did raze several villages.[1]
Later in 3012 the Fifth Regiment would conduct a diversionary raid on New Berne.[2]
Fourth Succession War
In the Fourth Succession War all regiments of McCarron's Armored Cavalry except for the 1st were stationed on Menke. They later fought along campaign to defend Sarna but had to retreat off world as Davion reinforcements arrived in the end phase of the war. [3]

Xin Sheng Campaign
The transition from mercenary to House unit was hardest for Kyp's Kommando. There was some resistance to the idea of giving up the mercenary heritage. This dissatisfaction led to a massive brawl between the members of the Little Richard's Panzer Brigade and the MAC. This barracks brawl eventually escalated to include several 'Mech units as the Panzer Brigade members vented their envy over the MAC being made a House unit.[5]
Jihad
As of early 3067, the 5th was stationed on Masterson.[6] As part of Operation Thunderbolt 5th Armored Cavalry drove the 5th Crucis Lancers off of Aldertaine. After suffering heavy losses, they relocated to St. Ives to rebuild.[7]
During the Jihad the Fifth broke into smaller formations and struck at targets of opportunity in the Capellan March and Blakist Protectorate. They reunited and garrisoned Sian when the Red Lancers and Warrior House Imarra were sent off-world. In 3077 they were sent to take the world of Halloran V. After that was finished, they returned to Sian.[8]
Dark Age
During the Confederation's invasion of the Republic of the Sphere the Fifth served as a backup force for the other McCarron's Armored Cavalry regiments. Though eventually forced to withdraw, they set up determined defenses of Woodstock, Liao, and Tsitsang. In their time on Sian, they turned out several times to perform perfect parade ground drill, a feat few suspected they could perform.[9]
To rebuild their unit's serious losses after the Republic conflict, the Fifth was reassigned to Menke.[10]
The Fifth was assigned to take the world of Chesterton from the Federated Suns. In 3144 they landed along with the 2nd Tikonov Guard. The two Capellan units quickly forced the 12th Vegan Rangers off Chesterton. The Fifth was very careful during their advance to both minimize collateral damage and prevent the Vegan Rangers from taking effective action. (During this time, the Fifth was nicknamed The Green Knights.)[11] They were still on Chesterton in 3145.[12]
Officers
As of 3025, the commanding officer was Robert Heptig.[13]
As of 3050 to 3054, the commanding officer was Colonel Victor MacBride.[4][14]
As of 3063, the commanding officer was Sang-shao Kyp Marloe.[5] He was still in command in 3067 as to 3085.[6][10]
In 3145 the commanding officer was Sang-shao Gwendolyn Vaughan.[12]
Tactics
The unit is well trained in defensive maneuvers and every opponent must pay a high price to get ground from them.[5]

- To increase their loyalty rating, Kyp's Commando focused on improving their BattleMech assets. The Air Guard and Special Forces unit resented this, with the Air Guard nearly mutinying against their unit. Sang-shao Marloe responded by completely disbanding the Air Guard, sending some pilots to other McCarron's units, retiring them, or sending them to serve as instructors in the Capella War College.[16]
Despite these setbacks, the unit's BattleMech regiment and armor corps were at full strength. The Special Forces unit lost approximately 15% of its troops.[6]
