History[edit]

The Capellan Reserve Cavalry formed during the years between the repeal of the Star League Council Edict of 2650 in 2572 and the eruption of the Amaris Coup. The Capellan Confederation Armed Forces had expanded rapidly, as did the militaries of the other Great Houses, and the Capellan Reserve Cavalry was the last of the CCAF brigades to form (or re-form) prior to the Coup. Between 2572 and 2765 the Reserve Cavalry mustered seven new regiments, with the intention that the Reserve Cavalry would act as rapid reinforcements to other units and as a source of replacement personnel for frontline commands. Like the other regiments within the Reserve Cavalry, the Seventh Confederation Reserve Cavalry was an odd combination of volunteer corps, training cadre and militia, with standing orders for the junior Colonel in charge of the Seventh to subordinate his command to place it at the full disposal of any frontline command it served alongside. This allowed the Seventh to act as a synergistic part of the superior formation, free of internal power struggles or conflicts.[1]

The Seventh was composed almost entirely of new recruits, who were full of patriotism, vigor and fiery enthusiasm. The Seventh was formed as a direct consequence of the formation of the Sixth Confederation Reserve Cavalry; the creation of the Sixth had come about as a result of a rousing speech by commonality president Kareem Birzah to the employees of Firmir Commercial, which caused more than nine hundred company employees to march to their nearest CCAF recruiting office en masse and attempt to enlist. Lady Elena Zou, one of the primary shareholders in Mujika Aerospace, was determined not to be outdone by Firmir Commercial, and offered to directly fund the creation of another Reserve Cavalry regiment. Zou's offer was accepted by Chancellor Barbara Liao; Elena's daughter Mary was promoted to Colonel and moved from the Eleventh Sian Dragoons to become commanding officer of the new regiment. Elena was instructed to recruit the best candidates for the Seventh, which posed a challenge given that the top graduates from the various Capellan military academies were already earmarked for established regiments. Mary recruited heavily from sources that were typically overlooked, or considered unorthodox, resulting in the Seventh being an eclectic mix of talented individuals who, prior to being recruited, had been monks, gladiators, computer programmers, gymnasts and other such personalities. Resembling a troupe rather than a command, the Seventh presented a far from conventional appearance for a CCAF regiment, but questions about the Seventh's performance stopped after their first operational exercise saw the Seventh defeat the Second Confederation Reserve Cavalry.[1]

Third Succession War[edit]

The Seventh Confederation Reserve Cavalry were reactivated in 2904 and later received regular troops as reinforcements. Their first action was when their AeroSpace assets participated in the fighting at Acala in 2905. They went on to become known as Hurloc's Hussars.[3]

Revival[edit]

The Homeworld of the Seventh Confederation Reserve Cavalry is on Altorra and Brixtana. Experimental unit, created in 3058, to see if it was possible to integrate Capellan troops with Magistracy of Canopus recruits who had attended a regional training center. The Maskirovka put the unit under surveillance in 3061, and the unit was still not declared combat ready when the ceasefire went into effect at the end of the Capellan Civil War.[4]

Xin Sheng Campaign[edit]

Stationed on Altorra in 3065, when the Magistracy of Canopus pulled all of its troops from the Confederation, the Capellan Forces watched the Seventh with great interest. The unit contained so many Magistracy officers and warriors that the Maskirovka had warned the CCAF of possible mass defections. To the Seventh's credit, not one warrior requested transfer back to the Canopian military.[5]

Jihad[edit]

During Operation SOVEREIGN JUSTICE the Seventh faced off against a regiment of the Lexington Combat Group (Marie's Golden Hammers). For an untested unit they performed well, bringing the mercenary unit to a halt several times before being relieved by more experienced Capellan commands. They then took up stations on Old Kentucky, Campertown, and Tsinghai.[6]

In 3085 the unit had redeployed to Sakhalin.[7]

Dark Age[edit]

In the Capellan Crusades, the Seventh faced the VI Principes Guards on Wei and crushed the Republic unit.[8] They later relocated to Shensi, where they faced Kai Allard-Liao and the V Hastati Sentinels.[9]

The Seventh had only suffered a few casualties in their recent clashes with the RAF, and are deployed on Bromhead.[2][10]

Tactics[edit]

As of 3063, the 7th is too new to have developed any signature tactics.[4]

During the fighting against Marie's Golden Hammers on Housekarle the Seventh became skilled in timing wave attacks where a battalion would engage the enemy then fade away as another battalion attacked. The Seventh used these tactics to provide a constant stream of new attackers against an enemy unit. This "rapid stream" technique is undergoing refinement by the Seventh.[12]

As of 3145, in their ongoing refinement of their personal "rapid stream" technique, the Seventh CRC have begun to vary the timing of their hit and fade attacks in the hopes of catching the enemy off-guard.[2]
